Nightborn Preview

My editor kindly sent some ARCs of Nightborn, the first novel in my new Lords of the Darkyn trilogy. Usually I give away all my ARCs without asking for anything in return, but as this novel is the first book in a new venture, it's important to get the word out about it. Thus I'd like to send these ARCs to people who are willing to help me do just that.

If you're interested, in comments to this post write a pledge for what you'd be willing to do to help me promote the novel* by midnight EST on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 (and if you'd like some ideas, you might write and post a review** of it on the internet, feature the book in a blog post, talk about the new trilogy on a discussion board, or something along those lines. Be as creative as you like, too.) I will draw four names at random from everyone who participates and send the winners a signed ARC of Nightborn. This giveaway is open to everyone on the planet, even if you've won something here at PBW in the past.

*Please note that this is not a contest for who promises to do the most. That said, I do expect the winners to keep their pledges, so please be realistic about what you actually can do.

**In regard to writing reviews, there are no expectations here or any strings attached. If you don't care for the book after reading, you are not expected to lie and/or throw up fake gushing reviews; nor will I hate you forever if you rate it with three stars or less. I don't care about stars. Just be honest and we're good.

Added to clarify: Midnight EST on December 7th is the cut-off to enter the giveaway; winners can keep their pledges whenever they like after they've read the ARC. It would be most helpful to have your help with getting the word out before March 2012, when the book is released, but it's not an iron-clad requirement.

  2. Umm, this feels a little weird to be pledging what I do anyway, but I would write a review then pass that link around on Twitter, FB, and Google+. Oh, hey, I'm supposed to cross-post my reviews on LibraryThing and GoodReads, so I'd make a point of doing it for this one.

Case in point, ARC or no, I'd do the same.

I don't do a blog, or twitter, facebook or any other social network site, but I can promise to feature a review of the book in my sci fi association's web site forum www.rafsta.org. Live long and prosper!

And I will of course be highlighting the book to all the members of my reading circle!

  4. I will review the book (I usually hang out at goodreads the most, but amazon is also an option) + plus I will pimp it out to my twitter followers and LJ friends :)

As with Shadowlight I would put a review on at The Book Depository and spread the word to family, friends and other sites if possible. I found that Amazon.co.uk would not allow a review until the book was published unless it has changed its policy.

  6. I will of course read the book, and I will post about it on Facebook, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.

  7. Yay! New series! I would post my review on Goodreads, FB, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and of course, Night Owl Reviews. :) Thanks so much for this!

  8. I'd post about it on my blog...both when I was reading it and when it comes out. But I'd probably post about it on my blog when I read it anyway...

  9. I will probably read the book for The Good, The Bad and The Unread, and ERWA anyway, and I prefer my ARCs in electronic format, but I have a lovely choice collection of signed print ARCs.
Pretty cover, but I can't help thinking I've seen that gentleman before.

  10. Ha, I blogged about this book yesterday! If I won an arc, I'd post a review on Goodreads and blog in more detail and of course hug it and love it forever.

  12. I'd do what I did last time: review on my blog, and also on the two South African web retailers I frequent. Then there's facebook, and a South African book forum I go to. All of these are South Africa based though, so very few international readers will see it.

(Btw...your books are getting more popular here. I've seen them starting to turn up at local bookshops. ;-) )

  14. I intend to buy the book anyway, so I'll review it and post the review to Amazon, B&N, Goodreads and Shelfari. I also will definitely make a point in mentioning it in my recommends in Dear Author. I will also post to my own little blog, will write an article on my reading experience of your series and how it has given me appreciation of the term "world creation" or "world building" even when the books are not sci-fi or fantasy per se. Either way, get an ARC copy or not, I am going to buy your book because I has to support my favorite authors so that they can keep feeding my addiction.

  20. Hi there,
I would love to read this book. I do reviews on most of the books I like - karma ya know.

As for me I don't have the time to put up a review before Dec 7th EST - Sorry - so don't pick me. ;-)

I am working on my trilogy that I promised to finish as soon as possible.

    Good luck, and good writing.

    Yours, Cyn

PS Of course I am procrastinating right now.

I think you'd have to be psychic to write up a review before you got the ARC, Cyn. :) You don't have to keep your pledge before Wednesday; Dec. 7th is just the cut-off to enter the giveaway. I've added a note to the post to clarify this.

This is the sort of thing I do anyway but, I'd write a goodreads.com review and rate it there, post it on my FB, send a note to my sister about buying the book, and mention it in my writer's group The Texas Mountain Trail Writers (who preferably would go find it or borrow it in order to read it for themselves).

  36. I would be happy to read and review the book on my blog and cross post the review to Goodreads and Amazon. Thanks for offering the giveaway!

  37. I would write a review for LibraryThing, my blog, and Powell's (the Portland mega-store). Probably also for Amazon and B&N, where I have posted reviews of your books. I'm excited about the new trilogy, and hope to add to my shelf of ARCS.

I would be delighted to leave my review on the BookCrossing website, although I'd be unlikely to leave one of your books at a public location for pick up by a curious passerby. I'm also willing to post a review on Amazon and Barnes&Noble.

  39. I Buy all your books and tell all the readers I know how much I love them. Naturally I'll be happy to review it on my blog and on facebook. Just wish you wrote faster but I know perfection can't be rushed. Love ya!
