PBW Holiday Giveaway #7 -- Inspire Me

We've managed to partially fix the upload problem, but my prize images may be a little fuzzy until we finish the fine tuning. I know we were pretty late posting this, so I'll extend the deadline for giveaway #7 an extra day to allow everyone have a chance to enter.

Blogging has brought a lot of new authors onto my radar, and for that I'm very grateful. Since I gave up traveling and public appearances I don't get out at all anymore to meet my colleagues. So I have no idea if Shiloh Walker is as hot as every says she is (but I'm guessing, yeah, she is.)

Fortunately weblogs have turned the online community into one huge perpetual writer's conference, where I can drop in and talk to virtually any of my writer friends whenever I like. And I don't have to wear makeup and panty hose and eat mystery chicken while I'm hanging with them, always a much-appreciated side benefit.

I was tempted to do a giveaway of books by all the writers I've met since I opened PBW's virtual doors, but UPS told me they didn't have a box the size of a house and the shipping charges would balance the national deficit. So I chose books by six blogging writers who have one thing in common aside from being very talented, skillful storytellers -- at some point during the last four years they all wrote something on their weblogs that kept me from quitting.

For the seventh PBW Holiday Giveaway, I have:

Six Books by Blogpals Who Inspire

unsigned paperback copies of: Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione, The Iron Hunt by Marjorie M. Liu, Red by Jordan Summers, and Beyond His Control by Stephanie Tyler.

unsigned trade paperback copies of: The Missing by Shiloh Walker and Tied to the Tracks by Rosina Lippi

And as a little Christmas bonus, unsigned hardcover copies of: The Treasure by Iris Johansen and Just After Sunset by Stephen King (two authors I wish would blog)

To have a chance to win this giveaway, in comments name or put up a link to a writer blog you like to visit (or, if you can't pick just one, toss your name in the hat) by midnight EST on Saturday, December 20, 2008. I'll draw one name at random from everyone who participates and send the winner the box of six books by my blogpals + the bonus books, plus an extra stocking stuffer -- a signed, printed* copy of my December Darkyn novella e-book release, Master of Shadows. This giveaway is open to everyone on the planet, even if you've won something from PBW in the past.

*Printed by me on bond paper and placed in a three-ring binder.

  5. Since I started blogging you have actually been the one I visit most. The last week I've been branching out to my other fave authors, I've been surprised that some don't have blogs at all.

  6. I visit many each morning. Here's a few:
    Nalini Sing
    Meljean Brook
    Charlie Huston
    Marjorie M. Liu

  7. I find reading blogs by writers can be very interesting, informative and entertaining. Other than PBW, I also frequent the blogs of Neil Gaiman and Marjorie Liu, as well as the forum of Vicki Pettersson. The internet allows us to connect with people all over the world whom we would otherwise never meet and I think that is very cool. And reading about what it actually takes to write and get a book published is inspiring. Not only do you have to be creative, but stubborn, persistent and thick-skinned. God bless writers!

    Hi Lynn,

Here are two of my favorite writer blogs:

Thanks again for the giveaways, they're lots of fun.

Shiloh Walker is as hot as every says she is (but I'm guessing, yeah, she is.)

Snort...choke...sputter....Shiloh Walker looks like a PTA mom. I dunno that hot would ever describe me, although the DH's satisfied, so hey, I can't complain.

Hmmmm... inspiring writer blogs...well, you. And Jordan. Those are the two main writer blogs I hit the most. Sometimes I think Jordan and I are long lost sisters because very often, we seem to be having similar thoughts about careers, paths we want to take, roads we want to try.

I was going to be unselfish and say leave me out of the hat since I've got a couple of those books and if I look at THE MISSING any time soon, I'm going to scream....but hey, if by some chance I win, I can always do a doubles giveaway at my blog... ;)

On a little tangent, Lynn, you've got no idea how many times I've come to your blog depressed or trying to think my way through something and I found the answer right here.

  14. An author who blogs who I wish would blog *more* is Steven Gould. But since he only posts rarely I'll link instead to Elizabeth Bear's LiveJournal. She updates frequently, and I enjoy the wide variety of things she posts about. A lot of it isn't about writing, and it's cool to get a sense of Bear's personality. I like the persona I see through the blog. And from time to time she does talk shop and that's cool. I especially appreciate that she's very willing to post when she finds writing difficult. If an award-winning pro can feel despair over her writing and struggle to make it not suck, it gives me hope.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Aside from your blog, which I've been reading for a couple years now and very much enjoy, I've come to enjoy Steve Perry's blog. http://themanwhonevermissed.blogspot.com/ Man knows his stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  16. One of my favorite authors, Rosina Lippi/Sara Donati. Her website ... http://rosinalippi.com/weblog.

    I found Lynn's blog from Rosina's.

  17. Wow, that is the neatest giveaway theme ever!

Every day, I visit your blog first, then I go see what Jim Hines is up to. His blog posts are thoughtful and funny--like yours always are.

  18. I'd like to suggest two sites:

http://www.timlebbon.net the site of Tim Lebbon, a dark fantasy/horror author. I knew him personally a few years back, and he's recently (two years ago!) given up the day job to write full time, an inspiration to us all.

Also http://www.writerlylife.com/, the site of a writer who is not known to me personally, only via her site, named Blair Hurley. She writes about writing itself, and is doing a post-graduate course in writing. Also an inspiration!

In jest, I'd say that I hope I don't win for your sake, as I live in merrie olde England, and fear what the shipping costs would be for you!

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is probably shameful, but I feel like this blog is a nice place where people won't mock...this is the first writer blog I've followed. I really enjoy it, though, so I'm interested to see what sites others recommend.

So name just in the hat this time.

Well, you are one of the only authors I read who blogs on a regular basis. To me, that kind of personal attention to your fans, i.e. keeping us posted on book updates (pink cover art), writing workshops, etc. means you care about us, the reader. I know writers are busy people, but you will even just have a post-it on the board telling us you are busy. I like that. I will most likely never meet you in person, but via blog is okay with me. I appreciate the time you take out of your day to update your blog. Thank you!

But one blogger writer friend that has kept me in check with her friendship (who befriended me via her creative, inspiring blog before meeting in person a year later) is Rinda Elliott.

I'd have to say Steve Pavlina. He's not a fiction writer, but he has inspired me over the last year or so since I've been reading his blog. He has a knack for challenging readers to look at their lives and themselves from a completely different perspective.

I also visit Jeanine Frost's blog and Rachel Vincent's blog on occasion. I'm more likely to visit a reviewer's blog for book ideas. 104. One of my favorites is Alison Kent's blog at http://alisonkent.com. I love to hear about her stories, other stories and her realistic take on life.

  110. Hi Lynn!! Love your questions because it has me thinking more and reading more!

For blogs I like to visit, quite a few! One I really enjoying is one that too talks about some historical info that I've been fascinated with learning since I love reading historical romance. This one is on westerns! Here's the link to it:
