Her Ladyship's Ten

Ten Reasons You Should Preorder Her Ladyship's Curse by Lynn Viehl

Awesome World-Building: I constructed this universe from the ground up, and it's one of, if not the finest, that I've ever built. At least that's what all my first readers keep telling me. They could be lying, of course, but some of them really aren't that nice.

Continuing Health Insurance Coverage: Profits from this series will go toward paying my health insurance premiums, which at this point are pretty much astronomical. Buy the book and you'll enable me to get regular checkups, physical therapy, my annual mammogram, and otherwise maintain my health so I can continue writing novels for you. Uninterrupted health care coverage will also keep me out of hot water with the IRS and the President of the United States, never a bad thing.

Fanger-Free: Some of you StarDoc fans bailed on me when I began writing the vampire books, probably because you think vampire fiction is repulsive. No problem; I feel the same way about inspirational chick-lit. I guarantee you there are absolutely no vampires whatsoever in this book, and furthermore I give you my solemn pledge to keep these novels 100% vampire-free for the duration of the series. You can trust me; I was a Girl Scout.

First in the Series: While we're on the subject of series, this is the first novel in my latest. You know what this means: you don't have to first read 683 other books in order to get all the references. I bet after reading this book you'll have so much time on your hands you can probably get all your housework and laundry done and still have a couple hours to catch up on the latest episodes of Scandal.

History Rewritten: How many times have you wondered what would have happened to America if the colonists had actually lost the War of Independence, and were obliged to remain part of the British Empire? I bet you were talking about it at dinner just last night. Well, now you can find out -- but only by reading this book.

Instant Guilt Relief: Some of you have been coming to PBW for the last nine years to be entertained, discover online freebies, enter giveaways for free books, find answers to your writing-related questions, gather links, steathily borrow from my content, etc. -- and yet to date you've never purchased a single novel I've written. This haunts you terribly, I know, and I don't want you to feel tormented any longer. Instantly rid yourself of the guilt by pre-ordering Her Ladyship's Curse.

Investment in Artist: Profits from this series will also go to paying for college tuition for my kid, who at presently has ambitions to be an animator. She's very talented (this is one of her pieces) and I think she deserves a shot; buy a book and you help me make this happen.

Low Price: The book costs $2.99 (or less if you have a discount card somewhere.) That's about the same price as the average grande drink at Starbucks. I'm worth as much to you as the price of a dinky cup of designer coffee, am I right? Okay, lie to me and say I am.

Perfect Wedding Gift for My Editor: Yes, he's getting married, any minute now, and he really doesn't need another toaster.

Support for PBW: Yes, I always tell you that buying my books is the only way to really support the blog. Naturally you could just send me a check for $2.99, but that would make me a little uncomfortable and definitely piss off my publisher. This way you get a book, I get financial support, and my publisher stays happy with both of us. Win/win/win.

Nice one! I've already got the book on pre-order thank you, but not for the reasons stated. I've pre-ordered it because you wrote it and I know it'll be an excellent read. Also after following you on the Disenchanted blog, my appetite has be whetted so much I can't wait. Just FYI though, I'd gladly buy your daughter's artwork. It's brilliant and I love it. She is indeed very talented.

  3. Your daughter's artwork is wonderful. I enjoy watching some of the Japanese anime and this drawing is every bit as good. She also seems to have an individual style. It is wonderful to have a goal to work towards. Look forward to reading your new book on my kindle.

  5. I've got it pre-ordered (back in February I believe) and I'm just waiting (patiently?) for it to come out. I've even got His Lordship Possessed pre-ordered because I have great faith I'm going to ENJOY this series as much as I've enjoyed everything I've read that you've written. You'r daughter is a very talented artist though...she must get it from her mama.
    Have a wonderful day!

    1. I will not let you down, Jennifer, thanks. My daughter probably gets some of her talent from her dad; he likes to draw ships and planes and everything I can't. I'll take credit for her color sense, though. :)

Done! You're definitely worth more than a Frappu or whatever-chino from Starbucks.
And I love the America under the Brit Empire concept.

  8. Are you kidding? I've had this pre-ordered for ages and can barely wait to open my Kindle one fine morning and find that Her Ladyship's Curse has magically appeared. BTW, you daughter seems to have inherited her mother's talents; love her artwork.

Just purchased at Amazon.ca for my Kindle. At $3.99, grumble, grumble. Kindle in North America used to be one store for all. Now they've forced us Canadians to shop in our own Kindle store. Prices are jacked (despite our dollars being close to par) and availability of titles has gone way down. So I was glad to find I could buy this one. Other e-books I've gone searching for aren't there.

Can't wait to read it! And I loved this post -- now this is how to do promo! Made me LOL.

    1. I appreciate the purchase, Sheri (and sorry about the extra cost. I think that is beyond dumb, given our close proximity on the border and the dollar.)

I've been trying to think of more creative ways to get the word out without being obnoxious about it -- fortunately my visitors are patient and understanding no matter what sort of propaganda I post.

  10. I'm one of those first readers Lynn mentioned who loves this new series. She's outdone herself with the world building. (I'm not just saying that because this is her blog. I want this series to continue!)

  13. Thank you for making me laugh. I will buy it - perhaps not preorder - but definitely buy and read it. And I'll do it even though I don't owe you for my extensive use of your website and freebies, because I've been buying all of your other universes and actually have the first 3 of stardoc on my bedside stand in REAL PAPER... :) Thanks for so many enjoyable hours. Looking forward to many more - if you wrote it long enough ;) - with this series... Sincerely, A fan of your blogsite AND your fiction

  15. I pre ordered both Her Ladyship's Curse and Her Lordship Possessed. Until you told me, I didn't realize they were available for pre-order. I had a little sticky note on my calendar to remind me to order the first book in August. Now I can just wait for it to magically show up on my Nook. Thanks for the head's up!
