Bye Bye Birdie
A few days ago our mourning dove's twins looked almost big enough to fly solo, so camera in hand I started checking them regularly in hopes of getting a shot.
On Sunday morning they were so restless I was pretty sure it would be the day, and parked myself, my work and my camera on the porch.
They were too fast for me to snap their first flight, but I managed to capture their first landing. Good luck, little ones.

Well, I'm not surprised you missed the shot. In the middle photo the bird on the left is definitely watching you very intently. Bet you closed your eyes for a minute and that was it - he was off! Such intelligence shining in those eyes.ReplyDelete
Till next year.ReplyDelete
I'd hazard a guess that they return a few times to see if there's any food on offer!ReplyDelete
Thanks for helping increase the mourning dove population. I don't know about down there, but around here we need more mourning doves so they can keep up with those darn Eurasian collared doves (or as we like to call them, 'big, dumb doves'.)ReplyDelete
Wonder how long it will take Momma to get started again?ReplyDelete
Can you imagine that first leap? Spreading wings and sailing out of the nest?ReplyDelete
I have a veritable herd of Mourning Doves that share the mountain with me. I think my backyard is their home turf. They're such gentle, beautiful birds.
