Unveiling the Youngbloods
This is the cover art for After Midnight, the first novel in my new YA trilogy for Flux. Here's a little about the story:
Sixteen-year-old Catlyn Youngblood isn’t happy about moving to Lost Lake, Florida. While she’s used to living a gypsy’s life with her brothers, there is something very odd about this small backwoods town. But Trick, her oldest brother and guardian, wants to settle down on their new farm and breed horses, and this time Cat may even have a chance to make some friends.
After a disastrous first day at school, Cat meets Jesse Raven, a boy who like her rides his horse after midnight. At first Jesse seems as unreceptive as the rest of Lost Lake, until Cat discovers he's just as lonely and friendless as she is. Troubling warnings to avoid the wealthy, reclusive Ravens worry Cat, as do more problems at school, but not enough to stop meeting Jesse.
Lost Lake is a town of many secrets, however, and when a terrifying attack exposes Cat and Jesse's friendship, their families go to extremes to separate them. Now Cat must unravel the tangled pasts of the Ravens and the Youngbloods so she can understand the strange connection that brought her and Jesse together -- and why someone is deliberately trying to tear them apart.
After Midnight will be hitting the shelves in May 2011.

Sounds interesting
ReplyDeleteGorgeous cover.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cover! I'm looking forward to reading this newest creation.
ReplyDeleteI love the swirlies and the mood it sets! Yay for covers!
ReplyDeleteThat model gets around on books, doesn't she? http://www.amazon.com/Star-Crossed-Bonnie-Hearn-Hill/dp/0762436719/ref=pd_sim_b_1
Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

Lol. With that lovely face and Mona Lisa smile I expect she'll be gracing many more covers than just mine and Bonnie's. She's such a match for my protagonist that I'm hoping to have her on all three of mine.
Awesome! Love the cover especially the font for the title. Can't wait to read it!!
ReplyDeleteYA paranormal? Sweet!
ReplyDeleteThe guy looks like the guys my mom warned me about...yummie :-)))
ReplyDeleteSusanne
Neat! My middle child loves to read books together with me. I think we have a new series! :)
ReplyDeleteJulieB
So that's why you had to overcome your fear of horses!! Looks very intriguing. My 13 year old and I will be looking forward to it this spring.
ReplyDeleteYA too?
ReplyDeleteThe woman writes everything. :)
Congrats, Lynn!
Absolutely love YA series despite the fact that most people my age left that section behind about 15 years ago and I have no teen of my own to bond over reading material with. Can't wait to read it next May!

Wonderful cover. Congrats. Sounds like an intriguing story.
ReplyDeleteSounds fantastic. Looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteOooh, sounds uber-cool. I'm looking forward to it! :)
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this one. I love horses, but my allergies do not. :-(
ReplyDeleteWV-Misty, which was oddly enough my first pony's name. She was a feisty Shetland cross, who would whinny if I yelled her name from our front porch.
I can't wait to recommend this to my book club! We are suckers for paranormal YA.
ReplyDeleteSounds awesome! I can't wait! It will also be available in Canada, right?
ReplyDeleteYES! I KNEW it'd be YA. That's why I kept pestering you about it. I love being right. It was only a matter of time... mwahahaha. :)
ReplyDeleteAlso. Some niggling things. I don't get a paranormal vibe from the blurb. IS it para? I mean, I ASSUME it's para, cuz it's yours, but I have to ask.
And.... I'll be the detractor. I don't like the cover. I like the font and the blue swirlies but she looks naked and her face looks overly photoshopped, the guy looks like a cartoon too, and the layout of the two heads is awkward. Sorry! Luckily, I'm not the "target audience" and I think it'll be an AFFECTIVE cover, which is way more important than a not-target-audience person not liking it. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how my publisher is going to classify, but I think of it as a YA dark fantasy.

Not a problem. No cover art suits everyone's tastes, and what appeals to a teen generally doesn't do the same for an adult.

YA marketing is very different from any genre I've worked on before, so I can't speak with any amount of expertise on what sells and what doesn't. I think it's attractive, the color theme is interesting and the characters as depicted are quite close to my vision of them. That's as close to a grandslam as you get with cover art.
Wheeeee! I've been looking forward to this since you posted the teaser long long ago. Love the cover!
ReplyDeleteAs a Teen Librarian, I can't wait to order this for my library! Love the cover too.
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds great and I'm glad you've got a YA series going. The girl on the cover looks like a Cat.
ReplyDeleteThe horse made me think of Black Beauty... haven't read about any horses in a YA contemp setting in a while it'll be a nice change.
I love YA fantasy, and I'm really excited about AFTER MIDNIGHT since I always enjoy your books! Great cover too.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!
Looks good.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a young adult, but this sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteLooking for reading it ...yeah I am a young adult
ReplyDeleteI mostly read adult paranormal romance books but if it's a Lynn Viehl story I'm so getting it! ;) Can't wait...
