Darkness Needs No More

My third Darkyn novel, Darkness Has No Need, has officially been retitled by TPTB. (drum roll, please) The new title is now:

Dark Need

My sincere thanks to everyone who helped with suggestions.

The average writer's options in the retitling department are usually pretty limited. You can keep fussing and hate everything they suggest, of course, which makes you look like a jerk and everyone on the publishing side unhappy. Or you can grab a reasonably acceptable suggestion before the unhappy people think up something harder to swallow.

Moving right along, our pal Tam now needs a new title for her third novel, so if you've got a minute, stop in and share some inspiration.

  1. It’s not a bad title, after all. It somehow manages to be both Dark and Needy at the same time. They have marketing departments specially qualified in this kind of thing you know. Anyway, it beats having to bang your own head against it for ages. Much better to bang someone elses.

No matter what the title - as long as it has Gena Hale, Jessica Hall, Rebecca Kelly, Lynn Viehl, and/or S.L. Viehl on the cover I'll read it with great pleasure. Titles don't make me buy a book - content does and yours rock!!! Can't wait for the next to be released - next month I think right? Marie

  3. Succinct, intriguing and sets a tone.

The titling process in English is confusing enough, but what happens to some books when they're sold to foreign markets can be downright confounding. My friend's SIM came out as Twice Upon a Time in this country. When it was packaged for Germany, the title translated as Dirty Snow.

Oh yeah, as I'm browsing a bookshelf, that's a title that would speak to me as a romantic suspense. Dirty Snow. *shakes head* There's no snow in the book. It could be a German phrase for illegal drugs, we guessed. But there are no illegal drugs or drug lords in the book either. Go figure.

I remember hearing somewhere that call girls used to be called "soiled doves" way back when by polite society. Maybe Dirty Snow is German slang for something similar (or maybe I just have a dirty mind).

  5. Schnee (snow) is a word used for cocaine.

  6. Well, I couldn't resist posting a comment. I just finished "If Angels Burn" and I loved it. It's been a long time since a vampire novel sucked me in that way. Kudos!
I'm chomping at the bit to get the next one. October seems a really long time to have to wait. *grin* However, we all know the publisher's cog turns slowly. However, it's a great concept. Taking something old and twisting it enough to make it fresh. I love the fact that the Darkyn are Dark...good job!
