This and That

I went looking around for online events to link to for those who are wisely avoiding RWA National next week, but unfortunately I found zip except for Romance Divas, who appear to still be holding their annual Not Going to the Conference Conference; registration at their site required. If anyone knows of any free online events being held for those who aren't going, please list a link in comments and I'll add it to this post.

Added: Author Alison Kent is giving away writing books over at her blog here, hooray!

Several people have e-mailed to ask if I would start hosting my Left Behind & Loving It virtual conference again. My reasons for ending it back in 2009 remain the same.

Access Romance blog is closing its doors as of June 30, 2011. As a consolation offering it appears they're giving away boxes of books, so if you'd like a chance to win some, head over and leave a comment.

Finally, yes, I can confirm that the title for my first novel in the new Lords of the Darkyn trilogy is indeed Nightborn. I had planned to announce it here as soon as I had some cover art to show you, but the book got moved up on the release schedule, my publisher put it up for pre-order on Amazon.com and evidently someone out there in NetPubLand spilled the beans.

Sorry the newsy bits are mostly depressing. Does anyone have any happy news to share? Let us know in comments.

  1. Great title - "Nightborn". I luv it! :) Thanks also for the heads up about Access Romance :)

Got no really exciting news, except I'm nearly done with my BuNoWriMo effort for this year. Only have to write about 453 words per day for the rest of June to make it. :)

  4. Yeah, Nadia!! Big congratulations. Motherhood is both horrific and rewarding, lol. The next time my son grabs a random person's butt in the store, I may die of embarrassment. : )

Happy news...uh...not sure I've had any of that in a while, so I shall live vicariously through the rest of you!

  5. Good news: Our library is re-opening Friday!

    Other random things:
    - Camp Nanowrimo starts Friday.
    - Scrivener Windows beta ought to be about due for an update
    - Summer has finally shown up. Sort of. We've had a whole 3 days above 80 so far this year. But - at least it's not 50.

Re LB&LI: Still miss it. Still wish someone would take the reins and run with it.

Re Books: Read a really enjoyable YA book this week - The Haunting of Charles Dickens by Lewis Buzbee. Liked it enough that I hunted down his other title, the somewhat similar Steinbeck's Ghost. Reading it now. Different, but good. Story for the sake of story, not for pushing the edge. Refreshing.

Wish I'd read Steinbeck's Ghost a year or more ago - soon enough to pass it on to others - it's library-closing relevant - but it wasn't even out yet.

  7. I have happy! I would have enjoyed Nationals (yes, you can question my sanity) but it wasnt in the cards.

We are on vacation-my family & I are doing something I've always wanted to do-driving out west. Going to the Grand Canyon & Phoenix. This is like a lifelong dream of mine. :)
