Winner

On the subject of the hand injury: eleven stitches, and a stern lecture from the doc; turns out I nearly nicked a branch of my radial artery. Still, I'll have a very cool scar to add to the growing collection, and I think I can guarantee that no one will put a knife blade-up in the dishwasher basket ever, ever again.

I appreciate all the detailed comments on what you'd like to read about the biz, as this gives me a better idea of what concerns writers right now, which translates into timely topics to write about here at PBW and over at the group blog. So thank you all for sharing your concerns as well as giving me much food for thought.

The kids handled the magic hat for me tonight, and the winner of the Agents in the Trades giveaway is:

Laurel, whose is going to warn her kids to "load the silverware with the forks and knives pointed down!" and is looking for "more information on how online MFA programs compare to traditional MFA programs offered at the Universities."

Laurel, when you have a chance please send your ship-to info to LynnViehl@aol.com, and I'll get this package out to you. Thanks to everyone for joining in.

  2. Lynn, I'm glad you missed that artery! And that you're going to be fine. :)

    And Laurel! Congrats! :D

  3. Congratulations, Laurel!

I'm glad to hear that your injury wasn't as serious as it could have been. My poor sister cut one of her tendons when a ceramic bowl she was washing slipped out of her hand and shattered, with a piece jumping back up and slicing her thumb.

  4. Lynn, so sorry about your finger! Guess you'll have to type with one finger in the air for a while? My niece put her hand through a window and cut the tendon so now she calls it her gimpy finger because she can't straighten it out. You were very very lucky.

  6. Congrats Laurel :). And YIPES. I'm glad it wasn't as serious as it could have been, but my goodness. Yeah, I think it'll be a long time before someone's not super careful about that dishwasher.

    Thanks everyone,

As I mentioned to Lynn in my email, I don't think I will ever unload my dishwasher without a wee bit of a shudder.

Though I still have quite a fear of those garbage disposals in the sink. I can't bring myself to use them. The idea of blades spinning around in that dark little hole.

    ohhhh....there goes another shudder!

I'm looking forward to reading the topics to come. There were some very intriguing topics on the table.

Oh, ouch! I hope you heal quickly.

My Mom did the same thing with a fork that was pointed up and dirty. She got an infection, though.
