Rita

The latest advisory on Tropical Storm Rita. There are no strike probability charts up at the NHC site yet, but news reports say that tourists are being asked to leave the Florida Keys. Gulf and Florida residents should keep an eye on this one; it's got definite potential.

I don't know about you guys, but I am storm-worn-out. Nature's way of reminding us that hurricane season doesn't end until November 1st, I suppose.

  1. I'm tired of them, too. Five day tropical forecast has San Antonio on the edge. Looks like it will miss us in Montgomery, but that's subject to change, as you all know. Florida and the Gulf Coast figure prominently, and that's something neither place needs again.

    Get ready just in case.

  2. A few of my co-workers here in Maryland are just now getting their houses put back together from (prior year)--Hurricane Isabelle. What's next?

  3. I'm already annoyed at the media who posted the headline, "Visitors told to Flee the Keys!" They made it sound like emergency management drove around Key West with bullhorns screaming, "Run! Run for your lives!!!" In truth, the tourists are always evacuated 48 hours ahead of residents. At this point, we who live in the Keys don't expect a mandatory evacuation to be called for residents. However, we aren't lacksadaisical about storms. We prepare, get secure, and stay alert. If they tell me to evacuate, I will. In the meantime, newscasters -- Please tone down the dramatic hysteria.

Mother Nature is still in charge of this planet. I think she's just letting us know.

  5. I wish everyone living in hurricane country the safest end of hurricane season ever. It's been a tough year for you folks. I can't remember seeing named storms this far into the alphabet. {{hugs}} to you all.

I hear you, girl. From down here in Miami, the winds have picked up already and we are to have hurricane force gusts by 5-6 am tomorrow morning.
Hold on to your hat and may it miss you completely.
