For Whom the Wand Waves

Yet again the Publishing Fairy crashed my morning work session to complain about how long it's been since she's appeared on the blog. Since I have to get ready for MegaCon, and she's in the mood to grant a BookWish* for one of you, I'm letting her take over today.

If you'd like to be the one upon whom she sprinkles her magic reading sparkles, in comments to this post name a book you've just read that you really enjoyed (or if you haven't read anything enjoyable recently, just toss your name in the hat) by midnight EST tonight, March 12th, 2014. I'll choose one name at random from everyone who participates and grant the winner a BookWish. This giveaway is open to everyone on the planet, even if you've won something here at PBW in the past.

*A BookWish is any book of the winner's choice available for order online and that costs up to a maximum of $30.00 U.S. dollars (I'll cover any additional shipping costs involved.)

I am currently reading "Why Kings Confess" by C.S. Harris. This mystery just keeps getting better and better. Next on the list, Patricia Briggs' latest Mercy Thompson. It's receiving good reviews, which only increase my desire to read it.

  3. Just finished 'The Rosie Project' by Graeme Simsion. It was pretty good, though it had a saggy middle.

  4. I recently read The Jade Temptress (Book #2 of The Lotus Palace) by Jeannie Lin. It is a historical fiction novel set in China; a different genre than what I'm used to.

Ooohhh I love the Publishing Fairy! I just read Striking Distance by Pamela Clare. I like the I-Team series and thought that this was one of the better ones.

Can I lodge my book wish just in case the Publishing Fairy smiles on me? I would love a StarDoc compendium. So not ready to leave that universe! But seeing as that book hasn't been written I would have to choose some Kim Harrison books for my sister. I have the hard copies but she lives overseas and needs the e-copies as the books are too expensive to send.

I read MR. CHURCHILL'S SECRETARY over the weekend and loved it.
Susan Elia Macneal made the 40s feel vivid and currrent.
I'd sworn off books titled Somebody's Something after the rash of Somebody's Wife books that came out in the last few years, but will have to get over that since the next two books have similar titles.

I just finished The Blinding Knife by Brent Weeks. I love this world building and I can't wait for the next in this series.
I also just read Cinder by Marissa Meyer. It was a YA fairy tale with a scifi twist and an ending I wasn't quite expecting.

  25. I just finished "Codex Born" by Jim C. Hines. A non-ripped, ordinary-person LIBRARIAN is the hero! Who also magically draws weapons and other objects out of the pages of his favorite books, some of which I have in my own library! Great geeky, meta fun.
