Wild Weather

We've been getting hammered with severe thunderstorms for the last two days, with so much lightning I have to keep everything shut down. Today's forecast is more of the same, so I'm going to pass on trying to post regularly or have a Friday 20 this week. I will put up the names of the winners of the RW giveaway tomorrow, so if you haven't entered, you've got until midnight EST tonight.

Right now it's quiet enough to write this and do a backup. Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you backed up your data? If your answer is longer than a week, please take time to do it today. Trust me, I have fried more hard drives than I care to count, and all it takes is one virus, one mechanical failure, or one good zap and it's gone.

As soon as the dove returns with an olive branch, I'll be back online. In the meantime, you all have a good weekend.

  1. Hope your disks remain unzapped.

And in one of those strange coincidences, my blog post today was about how nice the weather is in my corner of Western Australia. With pics from my bike ride ;-)

  2. I don't do backups. I just get paid to yell at other people for not doing them.

  3. Good advice! Hope your computers stay un-fried, Lynn.

  4. I saw the big coastal storm radar pics on the news this morning and thought of you. My part of the country could really use some rain. Funny how that works.

On another note, I just finished reading Evermore and have to say it's my favorite in the Darkyn series. Jayr is one kick-ass herione. Great read!

  5. Since my hard drive crashed this time last year, I back up my books every night (or at least every night when something has changed from the previous backup). Thanks for saying it, though, Lynn. It's a good reminder to have.

  6. Ever since my hard drive crashed, I keep very little on the hard drive. I use two flash drives, one as backup in case the first fizzles. Have a good weekend.

  7. My HD died about a month ago. I was backed up on everything except [dum da dum dum] my finances. (Shows you where *my* priorities are.) So, I had to recreate three months worth of entries, which wasn't horrible but did cut in to my writing time.

Thanks for the reminder. I'll back up again today.

  8. Here's hoping you get the dove with the branch soon! Good point on the backups. I am religious about 'em.

  9. The good thing about having more than one computer, is that you can keep copies on multiple drives. (Would you believe 3 laptops, 2 desktops, and one server?)

I see that there were also tornadoes your way. Take care from the weather and see you when you get back on.

  11. I always backup, always... :) But, even if the worst happens, everything is written by ink on paper, so the damage is minimal.
    I hope that I won`t be having a fire. :)

Tom here. As you know Lynn is offline due to bad weather, so I've removed several offensive comments that were posted above. I've put comments back on moderation to block any more from posting.
