Sygkenis

A friend sent me a link to a new Canadian band who took their name, Sygkenis, from my Darkyn books. They have a MySpace page here, and they'll be performing September 15, 2007 at Club Lambi, 4465 Saint-Laurent, Montreal, Quebec.

For me, this is like having a secret fantasy fulfilled. I only wish I could be there to see them perform. Break a leg, guys.

It is that. My daughter's reaction was priceless; she looked at me and said, "Maybe Grandma will let you get a tattoo now."

Not yet. They have two songs on their page, I think, but I don't have speakers on any of my computers. I'll ask my son to download them on his laptop for me later today.

Thanks, Charli (Jacqueline Carey is going to be SO jealous.)

Wow! The band itself actually looks pretty professional, if you ignore the absolutely awful MIDIs on their MySpace. MIDIs can't capture actual music, just computerized imitations, so don't judge by that.

  9. Dude! You got a band! Woot!

How cool will it be when, one of these days, you hear them on the radio or on an awards show or something and go, "You know, they named their band after characters in my books"? Fracktacular!

  10. Tres cool.

I refuse to believe the only reason you don't have a tattoo is because your mother won't let you. A convenient excuse? OK.

But if it works as a parenting technique with your own children to exhibit the "Power of Mom," use it as long as you can.

The music that played when I went to the page was instrumental and had a good sound. I expected something different.

This is very cool, but one thing has bothered me ever since I started reading the Darkyn books - and enjoying them immensely. Do the words used come from any known language or did you just make up your own? And how do you pronounce them? It drives me nuts when I don't know these things (I was an English major, if that clarifies anything!!)!

Hey this is Kat from Sygkenis!
I cant believe you checked us out, I am so happy!
I love the books, and because I am of Greek descendance I also "relate" to the name. lol
We are going into the studio end of September so the crappy MIDI's will be gone. We'll send you a CD when completed. :)

Love to see you at one of our shows!

Hi, Kat, what a lovely surprise to hear from you. I was so delighted to hear about your band.

That would mean a lot to me. If you have a chance, send your address to me at LynnViehl@aol.com and I'll send you all some signed books.

Love to see you at one of our shows!

I don't travel much these days, but if I'm ever in town, I'll let you know. Good luck with your show.

I wanna thank all of those who check out our myspace page, even though it has been under some changes for the passed month or so (lack of pics, videos, and real mp3s lol)

I hope you all enjoy our actual music once we get it up there, which will hopefully be end of this month, after we get back from the studio.
    :)

...and I wanna say thanks to Lynn for checking out my band. :)
I promise to try and get a tour and head to where ever you live so you can see us live!

    Peace,
    <3

For those who are interested, we have put up videos from the show last night, at club lambi, Emergenza festival.

The video doesnt sound as good as it was if you were there live, but it is decent.
