Offline

Yesterday morning my dad, Tony, had a heart attack. He was airlifted to a regional hospital where the surgeons saved his life; but as soon as he's strong enough he will have to have more serious, open-heart surgery. We were able to see him last night in ICU and he's hanging in there.

A few of you know how close I am to my dad. He's been a constant, loving, positive force in my life for the last thirty years. He may not have brought me into the world, but he helped me find my place in it. He is and will always be the father of my heart.

I'll be offline for a few days so I can spend this time with him and my mom, help them get through this. I would be grateful for any prayers and good thoughts you can send his way.

Oh, Sheila, I'm sorry to hear this. A year ago, my dad had a massive MI and a minor stroke caused by ischemia from his blood pressure being low for so long. I, a former coronary nurse, didn't see symptoms of an MI, instead I thought his pressure had bottomed out from BP meds. It had happened before.

We went to a good hospital, but not the one with a heart center, but it was Dad's choice, and the closest. The doctor at the ER told me my dad would most likely not survive the ambulance trip to get him to surgery. Even if he did, his chances were not good. The doctors told me three times during the night to call in the family. Dad went into v-fib five times during the procedure to put in the stints.

To make a long story short, my dad, who it turns out had suffered a previous MI (silent, as this one was) we didn't know about, is doing well today. His cardiologist marvels every time he sees him that he did not think Dad would survive.

I wish for you and your family the same success. Prayer is powerful and I saw it work for a retired minister as his friends and family gathered to join in our love for him. I'll remember your dad and your family and I'll tell my dad (a guy I've always thought had a direct line to God's ear). I'm sure he'll want to remember your dad in his thoughts and prayers too.

    My heart is with you.

If there's any way our thoughts, wishes and prayers can heal him, he's well on his way to breeze through this and further surgery if needed.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My Papa had heart surgery on Wed to repair a 4cm x 8cm anurism/blood clot from an artery leaving his heart and he had to have a kidney removed because there was a big "growth" on it. He is in ICU and will be in the hospital for awhile.
He is a tough old Britsh guy from the East End of London and Im sure he will pull through, as sure as I am that your Dad will pull through too.
