Dean

Hurricane Dean is gathering strength, and in preparation we have to shift some family members and friends around and otherwise batten down the hatches, so there will be no Friday 20 this week.

Here we go again

I think we'll be okay here, as long as Dean doesn't loop around or take a big jog to the north. It's always so hard to tell what will happen with these storms in August. One minute we're fine, the next a couple million people are trying to get out of its path.

Some hurricane information links:

The American Red Cross has a page here on preparing for a hurricane.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel -- Their Hurricane Headquarters section has the latest local info, as well as tracking and satellite maps.

The National Hurricane Center -- where to find the most up-to-date advisories on the storm.

  1. Oh no! I hope everything turns out okay. Will be looking forward to hear how you fare.

On a side note, I just got Afterburn today, and I can't wait to read it.

    Good luck.

Praying for your safety, PBW. And I too enjoy the arrowed visual, but don't ask me why I found it amusing.

  7. This much rain sucks!

See the red hitting Texas that is Erin flooding our yards, houses, cars and streets.

    Lynn,
Hope it stays out of S. FL. I'm in Jax and work for the Fire Dept. so I know about getting ready. We're all praying it stays far, far away!

  10. My prayers are with you. I don't know how you do it. My family considered moving to Florida, but the hurricanes alone were reason enough to stay away.

    Good luck. Stay Safe.

I'm on the Gulf coast... and know all to well about watch and wait. We're so desperate for rain, we wouldn't mind the hurricane coming by as long as it wasn't a big, nasty one. Be careful over there, PBW.

  13. Crack me up with your map. Short, but effective.

And feel free to send all the rain (and even the wind) my way, because we could use the 20-degree temperature drop we'd need to get the piled-up humidity to squeeze loose. *sigh*

    Praying for you guys!

  15. We had one of those there hurricanes drop in for a visit in the 1980's. Don't think they'll be invited back, somehow--way too much damage!

    Take care :).

  18. It still appears to be heading straight for the Rio Grande. I'd stay away from the Yucatan next week, though.

    I hope everyone stays safe.
