PBW's E-book Challenge

Here it is, the list of books and authors who took my E-book Challenge. This is one of the largest collections of free e-books by a group of writers as diverse as we are, so there is probably something here for every type of reader.

If you find any links that don't work, please report them in comments to this post. If you sent me an entry and it's not listed here, please e-mail me at PBWChallenge@aol.com and we'll get you on the list.

Congratulations to everyone who contributed; you all did a fantastic job with this challenge.

Happy reading and Happy Halloween!

I forgot to add my premise, didn't I? (PSA: Sleep is actually an important thing)

"A Matter of Tradition": Bryane spent five years in exile before the King's death drew her home - into the hands of a murderer.

  4. Goodness, I've been up since four a.m. revising, but the links should work. I apologize for submitting before it was "totally, absolutely, finally, completely" polished--and there's something about that submit button that reveals it really isn't.

Thanks so much for this opportunity to write and more, to read the great stories of others. I'm going to link to this post on my own weblog as well as that of our writers' group blog, Narratives.

    Happy reading, all!

*oggles* I'm going to drown in reading! Yes!

(This could be me but -- we could've done a short story!? I thought it had to be, yanno, longer than that! Gosh I'd have entered! Well now I know better. So, uh, when's the next one? *g*)

This was such a good idea, Lynn! I'm amazed at the number of us who actually finished in time. It was so fun writing, and I look forward to reading;-)

  10. Your E-book challenge really helped me to finish the first draft of my book. Even though I was not ready for this year's challenge, I hope to be able to present a book for the next challenge. :-)

Andi, I'll add in your premise right now.

Sam, fixed the link for Kelsey's Promise.

Now hopefully no one out there complains that they have nothing to read for at least a week or two. :)

  12. Anonymous12:57 PM

I meant Kelsey's Secret, of course. Kelsey's Promise will just have to wait until the next challenge (banging head against monitor.)

This is what happens when you pull an all-nighter, folks. The Secrets start looking like Promises.

Sam is allowed to smack me upside the head as much as she likes.

  14. What an extensive list.

Congrats to everyone who finished. And good luck to everyone participating in NaNoWriMo!

    Happy Halloween. :)

  15. Thanks Lynn - Much appreciated!
    Promises, Secrets...no problem!
You get a *smack* as in a big kiss, lol!

    Happy Halloween!!!

  16. Next time a reader complains about writers en masse not caring I'll give them this link. This is just the coolest! Thanks everyone.

  17. Link to Left Turn didn't work for me.

Can't wait to work my way through this list. :)

And to all of the participants - Great job!

    Left Turn

You’re right, if I try the link, which looks okay, it won’t load. However, if I just type the URL in, it works fine. My internet abilities are extremely limited, so I have no idea what the problem is. The URL is:

I tried downloading Left Turn on broadband and dial-up, and both times clicking on the link worked for me. I know some browsers go snafu when you try to open .pdf files, especially if you have an older version of Adobe Reader, like 4.0 or older. For those who are having trouble, try right clicking on the link and then click on "Save Target As..."

  22. Wow! Congrats to all the finishers. Thanks for running the challenge, Sheila. These are just perfect for a quick break during NaNo...

Good luck to the NaNoers out there.

  23. Wow! I'm amazed at the turn out...51! The diversity in the stories is awesome. PBW, thanks so much for getting all our links input and the data uploaded.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow! Fifty... er, forty-nine (I've read mine)... Forty-nine, most excellent challengers!

I can't wait to read them all. Every. Single. One. Of. Them! I'm rubbing my hands together with glee. I read all of the genres, so in the down times during NaNo, I have some fab reading to indulge in.

Thanks to everyone who participated, and especially to Sheila for the encouragement.

We're all out there now, and you can't take it back. Nyah!

  25. What an impressive and varied list! Thanks for hosting this, PBW!

  26. I'm really interested to see what kind of awareness and marketing impact this has for the various ebooks.

I stayed up way past the pumpkin hour last night reading the e-book collection. Just terrific. The best part is that there's still more to read.

I didn't get mine finished in time, but I'll finish it and be ready for the next go 'round. That is if PBW's nerves can stand another.... I bet she's TPBW (Tired PBW) today. :>)

Thanks, Sheila. And thanks to all the writers who shared their work with us.

I've read a smattering of these, and let me just say that there is so much talent out there. I would buy books from most of you. Thanks so much for sharing your stories.

  30. Thanks for the challenge! I was in a writing funk, and nothing was getting me out of it. I knew I needed to write, but I couldn't drag myself to do it. But this challenge was the kick-in-the-butt I needed to get me back into the writing wavelength.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The link to The Frain Legacy is incorrect. Some Halloween gremlins who probably didn't get enough Snickers bars stuck the PBW addy in front of my link.
    It should be www.darleneryan.com/TheFrainLegacy.pdf

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think the first person to read all of these should get a prize...like reading glasses or my son's Halloween candy =)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm reading through, little by little, mostly the shorter stories first.

One of my favorites so far: Dean Cochrane's The Weaveling--excellent writing and a great story to enjoy.

BTW, I do have this post highlighted and linked at my site, http://smgct.typepad.com/spinning, but can't seem to make it show up here under the links below (though the link I placed on our writers group blog automatically showed up here, and one I just placed on my blogger i.d. site did as well). So I'm doing my best to spread the word and attract readers. susan

My sincere thanks to everyone for the lovely compliments, wonderful links and our challengers' unending patience.

Crossing my toes as I write this: I think I have everything up and corrected (Darlene gets an extra hug for having to wait the longest.)

I had a huge amount of problems with the FTP on my own e-book (serves me right) but I forgot that when one uploads a .pdf file, one must send it as a binary file versus ascii. Four hundred failed upload attempts and a crashed computer later....

It was definitely a learning experience for me -- and aside from the fried modem, lots of fun.

    Thank you all again.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This is awesome! I've already read two! :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. An FTP tip I learned years and years ago? Make binary the default (everything will send fine that way), then you don't have to worry.

Great work, everyone, and thank you again for a great service, PBW.

  37. Another favorite (and I can't log on her blog to comment so I'm putting it here): The Betrayed, by Joanie Raisovich. Excellent writing, great story.

Of course I'm not used to the fantasy, erotica and romance and sci fi, so it's easier for me to get involved in the spec and dark fantasy (I write lit). But I've read quite a few and see some great writing here. Thanks again all for the sharing.
