Discoveries Week Wrapup: The Darkyn

Before we get to the last of my release week giveaways, let me take care of some winner announcements:

The winner of the Discoveries Week: Marjorie M. Liu giveaway is

CrystalGB, who wrote I always go back to the first romance genre (historicals) I read when I need comforting. I can escape to another time and place in those books.

The winner of the Discoveries Week: Rob Thurman giveaway is:

Vom Marlowe, who wrote I love audiobooks. My favorite is The Last Camel Died at Noon, written by Elizabeth Peters and read by Barbara Rosenblatt.

Crystal and Vom, when you have a chance please send your full name and ship-to address to LynnViehl@aol.com so I can get your prizes out to you. My thanks to everyone for joining in.

Wrapping up a release week is always a little bittersweet -- you're tired but happy, frazzled but relieved, and tapped out but quite thankful. According to my editor Nightborn did not make the Times list, which I suspected would happen, but the novel has made a very decent showing on Bookscan's BSL at #34. Nightborn also came in at #49 on the B&N overall mass market bestseller list and #11 on their romance mm list. Thanks to everyone who went out and bought the book; this was all your doing.

As my big finish for release week I'd like to pay tribute to my own Darkyn universe. It's a marvelous place filled with wonders, and I am delighted and so grateful to be writing in it again. To celebrate my return I've put together this prize package with lots of Nightborn and Darkyn goodies.

If you'd like a chance to win my wrapup giveaway, in comments to this post name your favorite Darkyn or Kyndred novel (or if you don't have one, just toss your name in the hat) by midnight EST tonight, March 15, 2012. I will draw one name at random from everyone who participates and send the winner signed copies of all seven novels in the original Darkyn series, all four novels in the Kyndred series, and Nightborn, the first novel in my Lords of the Darkyn trilogy. The winner will also receive a beautiful emerald tote bag handmade by murf56dubois, a window garden kit of French herbs to grow, several Darkyn-inspired BookLoops, an adorable stuffed bear and her little toy horse, a writer's words mug from Author Outfitters, and a lovely quilted apron like the one that inspired one particular scene in Nightborn. This giveaway is open to everyone on the planet, even if you've won something here at PBW in the past.

  1. Dreamveil.

    No. Stay The Night.

    No. Evermore.

    No. Yes. No.

Okay. All the above. In simultaneous order.

I want to win, damn it. And it doesn't matter that I have all of it. I can start the collector's set for my daughter. Not that I'd share them, but it sounds nice. O.o

  2. I don't have a favourite... yet. I am hoping to change that soon.

  3. Just finished reading Dark Need, so at the moment it's my favorite, lol. But Night Lost and Evermore are up next, so check back tomorrow, it's likely to have changed ;)
    Congrats on the good numbers!

  4. So far I have only read If Angels Burn. I know I am terribly behind. But I plan on catching up as soon as possible.

So that would have to be my favorite.

Dark Need is my favorite since I was introduced to Sam and Lucan in your short story. Evermore is definitely a close 2nd. :)

I've always loved If Angels Burn. I actually bought it as a gift when it was first published, but couldn't stop reading after I opened the cover to peek at the first few pages. I raced through the story for hours, desperate to finish before I had to wrap it! Fortunately my sister didn't notice and then loved the series as much as I did.

It made such an impression that I have made it my standard for all the vampire books that have followed.

    I can´t say which one I like best - usually the one I am just re-reading :-)
Do you have any idea how many books you are selling outside the US? I am reading your books in english but I came across your books on Amazon Germany and the reviews are absolutely glowing! That means that people like your books a lot over here and that your writing does not get ruined by an incompetent translator.
I also wanted to tell you how much I appreciate that you don´t mangle my first language in your books ;-)

  10. My favourite Darkyn novel so far (as I haven't read them all just yet but I'm working on it ;D) would be Private Demon I think.

  11. If Angels Burn is my favorite!

  12. I haven't read the Darkyn or Kyndred series yet, but I would absolutely love to. So I'll just toss my name in the hat and hope for the best again! :)

  13. It's still a good showing. As I suspected, our copy was already preordered, and I have a bunch of the signed copies from my hubby and I winning previous runs, so as much as I'd enjoy that beautiful tote, I'm going to sit this one out. But I felt compelled to answer your question anyway, in a rather odd way.

My least favorite of the series was the very first one, and yet I enjoyed it enough to commit to the next book, which led me to the next... Seriously, the Darkyn series was something where my most favorite happened to be whichever I was reading at the moment.

  14. It's Evermore for me.

  15. Evermore!!! I get the best of Alex and Jayr.

Private Demon - as it was the first one in the series that I read!

It's really hard to pick out one book, but I think my favourite book is Night Lost closely followed by Evermore and then the rest of the series.

This is a fabulous giveaway and I would love to win it all. Especially the tote and the apron. Inspired by your wonderful creations, I've decided to try and make my own backpack tote. I just hope its halfway successful.

Still waiting, not very patiently, for the UK release of Nightborn.

  18. I am still working my way through your books, but so far, Shadowlight is my favorite! I loved my introduction to the Kyndred and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series when I have time for pleasure reading again. I have a feeling Rowan's story is going to capture my heart as well!

  19. Evermore hands down. I love Jayr's story!

Although Nightborn did not make the bestseller list, I think your generosity has been amazing. Your blog has also been phenomenal. Thanks for your generosity, especially in providing the blog

  21. Pick One? That's not possible.

I'm not throwing my hat in for this one because I already have all the books. Thanks for sharing so many goodies with us all this week especially since you're nursing a repaired jaw.

    Congratulations on release week!

I haven't read the novels yet, so I'm throwing my name into the pot and crossing my fingers!

What a great gift, thank you for it!
I guess my choice is between If Angels Burn and Dark Need.

  25. I can't pick just one. They're all so good. And I'm dying right now because my Amazon shipment is taking too long to get here with my copy of Nightborn. Arrgghh. (It's not late. I'm just impatient.)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'd have to say Evermore and Stay the Night. They're both favorites!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm not sure I could pick a favorite but if I did I think I'd say "whichever one I am reading at the moment."
Thank you for the wonderful giveaways and congratulations to all the winners!

  29. Wonderful give aways and my favorite book was the first one. The scene in the surgery was amazing-still gives me shivers to picture it! Glad your 'showing' on the lists is solid-I know I did my part!

Your first book,IF ANGELS BURN,introduced me to Michael Cyprien, and I've never let go of that first meeting. I have told many friends that my next son would be named Michael Cyprien XXXXXX, if that could ever happen at this age. His whole presence is the standard that I judge men by now, whether they are fictional or real.

  31. Congratulations on release week.

Favorite book? hmmm, I would have to say Evermore and If Angel's Burn my two favorites.

But I really like the scene in Twilight Falls or Stay the Night, when Alex tells Michael about her dreams with Korvel, and he begs her to Stay with him.

Man, I really hope I win this goodie bag.

I think I will go with 'If Angel's Burn' and 'Dark Need' because they both seem dense and rich. Like a fruitcake, only not as sticky.--LuAnn B

  33. My favorite - StarDoc. But that's because I hadn't done my homework and only stumbled across your paranormal romances a few weeks ago. I've ordered the first of the Darkyn series through Better World Books. Now I just have to get to it.

Without a doubt, my favorite is If Angels Burn. And I looked for Michael and Alex in every other Darkyn book, even though I liked the new couples in each book.

  35. Evermore is my favorite. Congratulations and best wishes. Your blog is special.

  36. If Angel's Burn is one of may choices. I enjoy many. Your generous week is so beautiful. Congratulations on release week.

  37. It's so hard to choose just one...sort of like picking a chocolate out of a big box of them. Still, if I have to, I will pick Night Lost, though I really love all the Darkyn stories.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Can't pick just one, I have two favorites! If Angels Burn and Dark Need. Thank you for all of the great giveaways this week!

  39. In the Darkyn Series I would chose privite Demon. This book introduced us to new charters Jema and Thierry. In the Kyndred series I would chose Dreamveil. Why have one when you can have two.

  42. Oooh, it is hard to pick a favorite, but I love Jayr so I'll say Evermore. I neeeeed this giveaway because I stupidly loaned out my Darkyn books without having spares and now one of my friends has it held hostage. ;-)

This is me tossing my name into the hat once more. I'd love to say a favorite book, but I've only read "Frostfire." It was great, but I have no others to compare it to. (Although I suppose that makes it my favorite Viehl novel by default.) So I definitely need to get a hold of these one way or another.

I'm crossing my fingers and wishing really hard! Everyone's excitement about these books is infectious and I want them all! (Also, that tote would make the perfect knitting bag. You can't have a knitting bag that isn't roomy enough for a novel as well!)

  44. My favorite is If Angel's Burn. I love all your books in the Darkyn and Kyndred series.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I don't have a favorite. Is that a bad thing? I re-read them all equally.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Evermore is my favorite. It's mostly because I love the cover and every time I randomly pick a book, the beautiful purple cover just sucks me in.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have said this before. I bought the first Darkyn book because of the title - If Angels Burn. I just had to read that book. From there I learned about the Stardoc universe. I wish you could return there for another book or two or three :)
