Korvel Arrives

This looks like a new release, but it's a bit more than that. Four years ago it was just a dream; one they tell us not to hope for in Publishing. On the cover is a fountain that I sat by in real life while I was (foolishly) dreaming of the story. Coincidence? Omen? Have no idea.

This novel and I have also been through a lot together, too. I had just sold it when I had to undergo eye surgery. My editor of seven years abruptly quit a month before I turned in the manuscript. I started production on the book just as my dad had a stroke. I worked on revisions while Dad was in hospice, and proofed the galleys right before his funeral service.

Every time I look at this book, though, I don't feel sad or depressed. What I remember is how the story stayed with me through the worst, and kept me focused whenever despair tried to drag me down into the abyss. I always talk about how we need to protect the work; oddly enough this time the work protected me. Nightborn grew from a dream to a hope to a reality, and then it became a steady beacon of light during some very dark times.

I am so proud of this novel that I wish I could give everyone a copy for free, but writing is how I earn my living, and for all that I give away, I do need to sell some work. You readers out there wanted more stories of the Darkyn, and now I've delivered. If you'd like me to keep writing them, then this book has to do well.

If you were planning to buy the book but haven't yet, please pick up a copy as soon as you have a chance (this week would be great, but anytime is appreciated.) If you like Paperback Writer, have found it helpful, lovon with all I do here, buying Nightborn is how you can show your support and provide funding for the blog. If you can't afford to buy a copy, please ask for the book at your local library; that is also a terrific way to help.

For all of the bloggers out there who have already helped by hosting me at your sites and/or otherwise spreading the word, and the readers who have already bought or requested the book, and/or have spread the word and encouraged others to check it out, thank you. I could not do this without you.

I've had the book on pre-order since last year and I can't wait, especially given the compelling reasons in your post. Unfortunately for me, Amazon UK has the despatch date listed as 3rd May so I'll have to wait a little longer - sigh!

  7. I will totally have to buy it off Amazon or something :) It sounds like a book you would be very personally attached to for all that you went through with it.

  13. I think my previous comment may have been lost, if this is a repeat, I apologize in advance. I got mine on Saturday, after you gave us the head's up that B&N was taking orders and shipping them immediately. Of course, now I have to get the electronic copy. I have to admit I feel very weird now when I pick up a print book. I've been reading mostly in ebook formats for 9 years now, so that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. Very much looking forward to start reading! And congratulations on your new release!

:-) Congrats! I was going to pick up another copy when I got there in 2 weeks, but...I think I'll order it now, and if it arrives on time, hold a contest on my blog as further promotion. :-) I posted a preview in February, so I think this would make a fun follow up.

  18. Bought two copies. One from BN and one from Amazon and both shipped yesterday. I can't wait!

I think sometimes, we don't recognize the book of our heart until we look back and see that, it might not be the one we *had* to write and baby along, but it's the one that kept our heart going in the dark.

    Congrats, Lynn! :o)

    Lynn,
Congratulations on the new release. Tomorrow I will be purchasing two copies on my lunch break. I would have been out this afternoon buying them, but my equine vet was out looking at my horse's eye. (What fun for me, meds in his eye every 4 hours for the next 7 days.) For all that you do, you have my unending loyalty. Your books are often the much needed distraction I need in my busy life. Take care and keep writing. You will always have at least one fan/reader!

  23. Lynn,
You may have answered this in an earlier post and I missed it but why does the audio book have a different cover?

I don't think I answered that, but everyone will forgive me if I repeat myself. :) Tantor is a separate publisher/company that bought the audio rights to Nightborn, so they do their own artwork for the cover. Although the models are different, I thought it was great that they made their cover to sync with Signet's artwork for the print edition.

  25. Hey PBW,

I just finished reading Nightborn, and I saw the sneak peek at the end about your next Lords of the Darkyn novel. I remember reading about Jamys and Christian before, but I don't remember which novel or short story. Can you please remind us?

    1. Hi Melissa,

I'm trying out the new reply feature with the revamped comments, so hopefully this answer pops up under your question.

Jamys and Christian first met in my e-book novella Incarnatio, which you can read online, download, print out and share with pals for free by clicking right here, or going to this URL: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BzylBQC3SyqoYmJmZTg1ZmMtN2Q4OC00ZmRmLWEyMjctMzE4N2E3OTg5OGRj/edit

  26. Hey Lynn,
I don't want to spoil this for anyone so if I have questions, how can I ask you without blabbing to others who haven't read the book?

I did NOT read Nightbred. I can't handle the tease. I will wait until my birthday (Dec. 10) and treat myself to a nice read.

    1. You can e-mail your questions to me; my addy is LynnViehl@aol.com. I am backlogged on e-mail right now (on average I receive about two hundred per week), and things are pretty hectic for me with the new release, but I will try to get back to you as soon as I can. Please put "Questions about Nightborn" in the subject line so that flags your note for me.
