Thank you all for putting up with my lousy blogging this week. To get back on track and do something fun, I have seven ARCs to give away of my January '09 release:
Stay the Night features Robin of Locksley from Evermore, and is the seventh and final novel in my current Darkyn series. If you want more Rob, and/or to know how I wrap up things, this is the story you'll want to read.
If you'd like a chance to win one of the seven ARCs, in comments to this post name one of your favorite novel series in any genre (or if you're not a series fan, just toss your name in the hat) by midnight on Saturday, September 20, 2008. I will draw seven names at random from everyone who participates and send the winners a signed ARC copy of Stay the Night as well as a surprise. This giveaway is open to everyone on the planet, even if you've won something here at PBW in the past.

I love the infamous Potter series. But, I recently read Robin Hobb's Assassin series and had a difficult time wrenching myself away. I'm always on the lookout for a new series to disappear into!
ReplyDeleteI like the Potter series & Dresden Files series. :)
ReplyDeleteI am completely enraptured in Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series. It just gets better and better and I'd recommend it to anyone.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde. I love a good mystery.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to go with Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber--both sets.
ReplyDeleteDresden Files.
ReplyDeleteLong time lurker who can't pass up this opportunity. Fav series is J.D. Robb's "In Death" and Feehan's "Dark" series. They were the only book series I allowed myself to evacuate with during Ike. Luckly I've come back to all my books intact.
ReplyDeletePratchett's Discworld :)
ReplyDeleteDresden Files
Kim Harrison's Witch series
So many series, so little time but right now, my favorites include the Mercy Thompson werewolf series by Patricia Briggs and Linnea Sinclairs' Gabriels Ghost series.
ReplyDeleteBy far, my favorite series is Lois MacMaster Bujold's Miles Vorkosigan books.
ReplyDeleteLackey's Valdemar and Weber's Honor Harrington. I love science fiction.
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of series and I doubt I could pick just one. Some top contenders:
ReplyDelete-- Kushiel series, Jacqueline Carey
-- Dresden Files, Jim Butcher
-- Weather Warden, Rachel Caine
-- Vlad Taltos series, Steven Brust
-- Thursday Next, Jasper Fforde
I'm with Sarah, I'm loving me some Breed warriors. I am also inlove with Gena Showalters New series, Lords of the Underworld.
ReplyDeleteI will be very sad to see the Darkyn's come to an end.
I loved Lilith Saintcrow's Dante Valentine series, which is finished now. *sigh* Five wonderful books!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Karen
I'm currently enamoured of Phillip Pullman's Dark Materials series. Fantastic stuff.
ReplyDeleteOMG Robin's book!! He's been my favorite character in this series since you introduced him. :) *can't wait*
ReplyDeleteOkay, favorite series, in no particular order:
Obviously, the Darkyn and Stardoc series. :-)
Harry Dresden by Jim Butcher
In Death books by J. D. Robb
Psy/Changeling series by Nalini Singh
Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
I admit it, I still read LKH's series, both of them, though I am enjoying Merry much more than Anita of late.
And yes, of course, Harry Potter. :)
I actually am a huge fan of Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody mysteries.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite series continues to be Roberta Gellis's Roselynde historical series. It is labeled as romance but is so rich in understanding medieval history. As for fantasy, I continue to love Robin McKinley's books. Her vampire novel Sunshine is truly unique.
ReplyDeleteI know it's practically cliche' but I like Nora Roberts' Irish trilogies, esp. Born in Fire, Born in Ice and Born in Shame. I reread them all the time.
ReplyDeleteI also like Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse.
And shouldn't that read NYT bestselling author? ;-)

I love and am completely enamored with Patricia Brigg's Mercedes Thompson series.
ReplyDeleteThe one I come back to whenever I just need to relax and laugh is Patricia Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm digging Sara Douglass' Troy Game Series.
ReplyDeleteI like both Potter and Dresden, but lately, i have been into the Kiss of Fire and Fury by Deborah Cooke. They are such reat books about dragons, hot men, and dragonfire. I can't wait for the third in the series Kiss of Fate.
ReplyDeleteangelleslament @ gmail.com
My one and only favorite series is Stardoc (and not because it's you who is writing it).
ReplyDeleteBeing an old dork, my favorite series of all times was Agatha Christie's Miss Marple.
ReplyDeleteI have so loved and enjoyed the Darkyn series. I am sorry to see it end but I know that you will be bringing us more wonderful stories set in equally well developed worlds with awesome characters. Please put my name in the hat! P.S. I loved Omega Games. It was my first StarDoc but it won't be my last!
ReplyDeleteI'm being completely honest here when I say that Stardoc is my favorite series. I've read some of the books eight or nine times because I love them so much. That, and I have a bad memory. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'll have to go with the Mercedes Lackey Valdemar books. I've been reading them since I was a wee lass, and I still go back and pick up some of the old stuff. It's the ultimate comfy chair fantasy series for me.
ReplyDeleteJeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series is terrific.
ReplyDeleteAnd I keep hearing so many good things about The Dresden Files I'm going to have to try that series too.
Robert Jordan - Wheel of Time
ReplyDeleteAnne Bishop's Black Jewels
ReplyDeleteAlan Campbell
Darkyn
Charlie Huston's Joe Pitt
I cannot pick just one series. So here are my favorites:
ReplyDeleteViehl - Darkyn Series
Lora Leigh - Breed Series
Feehan - Dark Series
Lara Adrian - Breed Series
Gena Showalters - Lords of the Underworld
I can't wait to read Stay the Night. I wish it wasn't the last book.
I love Janet Evanovitch's Stephanie Plum series. Mostly for the romance ;). Love, love this cover for Stay the Night.

I love the Amelia Peabody series from Elizabeth Peters, the J.D. Robb Eve Dallas series, and Lisa Kleypas Wallflower series among many, many others, including Jennifer Rardin, Kelly Armstrong, I could go on and on...... CathyG
ReplyDeleteIn addition to your Darkyn series, Lynn, I really enjoy Nalini Singh's Psy-Changling books. I haven't bought Hostage to Pleasure yet, but I hope to have it soon. Singh excels in world-building, and is no slouch in characterization or plot, either.
ReplyDeleteBy the by, I never had an opportunity to comment on Twilight Fall after I read it. Thank you for another fascinating episode.
Kay
So many wonderful series and I have to pick one?
ReplyDeleteOne series I love that hasn't been mentioned is Chelsea Quinn Yarbro's Saint-Germain novels. These are wonderfully written historical novels with a POV character who is a vampire. Bookstores don't seem to know where to shelve them, sometimes in horror, sometimes in sci-fi.
A list of some of my favorites:
ReplyDeleteIn Death - JD Robb
Harry Potter - JK Rowling
Lords of the Underworld - Gena Showalter
BDB - JR Ward
Dark Hunter - Sherrilyn Kenyon
Twilight - Stephenie Meyer
There are many more that I'm forgetting, but these are some of my favs!
I am also a huge series fan. There's something about knowing you're going to be with characters for more than just one book, that you get to know their ongoing stories.
ReplyDeleteNot including the Darkyn. :)
Here are two of my favourite Urban Fantasy series:-
Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series starting with Bitten.
Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series starting with Moon Called.

ReplyDeleteIn Death - Robb
Lords of the Underworld - Showalter
Dark Hunters - Kenyon
Carpathians- Feehan
Night Huntress - Frost
Oh, Robin. He's my favorite Darkyn character, too. Can't wait for his book, but don't want the series to end...
ReplyDeleteMy favorite series? I can't narrow it down to one, but maybe three:
Kelley Armstrong's (Women of the) Otherworld
your Darkyn
Mercedes Lackey's Bedlam's Bard
LOVE the Darkyn series. Evermore was my favorite. I have been following these as well: Lara Adrian and JR Ward.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm only going to name the first series author I ever read and the one that introduced me to Sci-Fi/Fantasy. Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. I snuck into my mom's room and raided her book collection when I was about 11 or 12. She found me reading them that evening when she got home and asked if I had any questions about them. I had hundreds! I was hooked after that on fantasy books. I refuse to choose one favorite author. If I go to the trouble of buying a series, it is because I like it!
ReplyDeleteTami

Oh, boy. So many series. But since others have named most of my favorites, I'll toss in Marjorie Liu's Dirk and Steele series. And Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld.
ReplyDeletePlease put my name in the hat.
ReplyDeleteLois McMaster-Bujold - the Chalion series and the Vorkosigan series; Jim Butcher's Dresden Files; Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson (and related) books; Stephen Brust's Vlad Taltos series.
ReplyDeleteThis is hard!:) I have several favorite ones right now: Mercedes Thompson by Patricia Briggs, Anna & Charles also by Patricia Briggs, Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews and finally the Psy-Changelings by Nalini Singh. Ouf!:)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for Robin's book but I am sad to see the series end! Right now I am loving Nalini Singh Psy-Changeling series.
ReplyDeleteLove the Dirk and Steele Series by Marjorie M. Liu :)
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough to have a high school teacher introduce me to the whole Fantasy and Sci-Fi thing, with such authors as Susan Cooper, and her Dark is Rising Series, or Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles. Throw in Herberts Dune Series, Zelaznys Amber Chronicles... I could go on and on. These are the masters who toiled before us, may we continue their tradition.
ReplyDeleteKim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy was one of the best I ever read. I also grew up on Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan books.
ReplyDeleteI love series ;-) In death by JD Robb, Cicle of magic by Tamora Pierce (yes, I know it's a children's book and I don't care. Love them and forever will), Inheritance trilogy by Christopher Paolini and many more...
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge series reader, some of my faves are...
ReplyDeleteJim Buthcer's -- Dresden Files

Kenyon's - Dark Hunters
Brigg's -- Mery Thompson & the new Alpha & Omega series
Robb's - In Death Series
McCaffrey's - Pern, & Freedom series
Kay Hooper's - Bishop series
and on and on and on.....
I love darkyn, but my favorite serie is Jaci Burton's Demon Hunter novels, in very close competition with anything by Patricia Briggs.
ReplyDeleteNow, If you excuse me, I have go and order Twilight Fall, since my otherwise excellent local bookstore don't have it after 2-3 months...
Some of my favorite series would have to be J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series, both of Laurell K. Hamilton's series, Julia Quinn's Bridgerton Series, Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel's series, and of course the Potter series. But i would have to say my favorite series of all time is Anne Bishop's Black Jewels series. I've read them all several times and still keep coming back for more.
ReplyDeleteI have loved Robin's character all the way through I am excited about his book. Thanks for the giveaway. It is hard to pick my favorite, I love series.
ReplyDeleteTroubleshooters by Brockmann
Psy/Changeling by Singh
Darkyn by Viehl
Breeds by Leigh
In Death by JD Robb
Mercy Thompson by Briggs
...and many more
I know it had to happen sooner or later. I'm sad and can't wait to read the last of the Darkyns.
ReplyDeleteOthers that I read religiously is In Death (Eve & Roarke), Dark-Hunters, Breeds, Black Dagger Brotherhood, Carpathians and I'm sure I'm missing some others.
Tough question! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Darkyn of course, Feehan's Carpathian series, Cornwell's Scarpetta series, Kava's Maggie O'Dell series and I'm sure there are more but these were the first ones I thought about.
Tough question! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Darkyn of course, Feehan's Carpathian series, Cornwell's Scarpetta series, Kava's Maggie O'Dell series and I'm sure there are more but these were the first ones I thought about.

Tamora Pierce The Knight series
Kay Hooper The Bishop series
Patricia Briggs The Mercy Series
Elizabeth Moon The Serano Series

In Death by J.D. Robb
Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
Dark Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Ghost Walkers by Christine Feehan
Shakespear series by Charlaine Harris
and soooo many more.
Lilith Saintcrow's Dante Valentine series.
ReplyDeleteHmm...I'll throw the Vorkosigan saga in the ring, although it's one of many series I follow.
ReplyDelete- Nicole
Well I learned some new ones reading here, some authors I haven't read. Some of the ones I have in common are.
ReplyDeletePatricia Briggs

ReplyDeleteBut I'm also a fan of Tanya Huff's Confederation series, too. After that it's David Weber's Honor Harrington, Maggie Shayne's Night Wing and Brands of Texas series.
Next up is re-reading Stardoc and Darkyn so they're in the mix too.
I'm such a series slut...

Your Stardoc series...adore it. I got hooked by one of your ebooks, actually.
Christie Golden's Dancer Series
Robin Hobb's Assassin series
Eve Kenin's Northern Waste series
Brian Jacques' Redwall series
sooo many more.
I love your series, the Psy-changling series by Nalini Singh, all the different series by Lora Leigh, and just for a change of pace Suzanne Brockmann's SEALS, Robin D. Owens Heart series and her Llandra series. Deidre Knights Parallel series. Guess I better stop.
ReplyDeleteLilith Saintcrow: Danny Valentine, Jill Kismet.
ReplyDeleteKay Hooper: Bishop (especially his and Miranda's book)
Mercy Thompson series
Jim Butcher's Dresden files
Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley
Jeanie Frost's Night Huntress series...
I like the book Evermore by Lynn Viehl. I read it like 3 times in the last 2 months.

Hi. I agree with most of what the other posters have said but there are three stand out series that I read over and over to the point of having to replace books when they wear out. They are :
ReplyDelete1.Anne McCaffrey - Dragon Riders of Pern/Tower & the Hive/Talent Series/Brain & Brawn ships
2. Melanie Rawn - Dragon Prince/ Dragon Star
and the third is a new one but is right up there
3.C.L Wilson - Tarien Soul
My favorite series is probably Piers Anthonys 'Incarnations of Immortality' series. I have always loved his writing and my children are following in my footsteps in that way. I have a fairly large collection of his novels. Please toss my name in the hat!!

Sharon McCone series - Marcia Muller
Elizabeth McPherson mystery series -Sharyn McCrumb

ReplyDeleteI'm in the middle of the Harry Potter books. Yes, yes...I know.
I have too many, but I'll start with Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series, Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson series, Rachel Caine's Morganville vamp series, Carrie Vaughn's Kitty series, Rob Thurman's series about brothers Cal & Nico, Jeanne C. So many, but here are the ones that spring to mind immediately:
ReplyDeleteStardoc and Darkyn (of course!)
Black Dagger Brotherhood - JR Ward
Tempe Brennan - Kathy Reichs
Sword of Truth - Terry Goodkind
Women of the Otherworld - Kelley Armstrong
Cheers,
Erin K.
Hmmm...so many..let's see: Black Dagger Brotherhood, Harry Potter, In Death (JD Robb). I'm going to stop there. The list does go on and on.
ReplyDeleteJust now able to post here after Hurricane Ike left me without power for over 7 days.

ReplyDeleteSimon Green's Nightside series and Eddie Drood series
Pat Briggs Mercy Thompson series
S L Viehl's Stardoc series
Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse
CheryeB
Love the cover to this newest Darkyn but dont want this series to end! Okay, but on to the series topic. There are so many good series out there. For me:
ReplyDeleteYour books of course!
Charlaine Harris
C.L. Wilson
Kim Harrison
Karen Chance
Marjorie M Liu
Kresley Cole
Kelley Armstrong
Yasmine Galenorn
Etc...
When you say "following a series" in Malaysia, people usually think you're referring to the Hong Kong TV drama series, that're incredily popular here.
ReplyDeleteBut for me, it's usually one of these: In Death by JD Robb, The Brotherhood by JR Ward, The Hollow by Kim Harrison and the Darkyn tales.
I've heard good things about the Lords of the Underworld and can't wait to get my hands on one.
Dude! I would LOVE a sneak peek! Thus, while I have long since "outgrown" this particular series, I must admit that I always loved Walter Farley's Black Stallion books. I read every one I could get my hands on back in the day. Gosh, I was in, what, first or second grade?
ReplyDeleteAnd the Nancy Drew books. Those count as a "series", right? Ditto with them -- read every one I could find at the local library.
Nowadays, I've kinda lost my lust for the Anita Blake novels, but I still kinda like the Merry Gentry ones, though one of them was basically just sex with little or no plot movement.
Hm.
I've read everything of Stephen King's up until the last year or so. Not exactly a series (though the Dark Tower books are, and I've read all but the last two of them), but a lot of them are interconnected. Lots of woven threads. It's like one of those old "how many objects can you find in this picture" puzzles in the old Highlights kids' magazines.
And the Darkyn novels, of course. Holy cow, but they're awesome. It's hard to believe they're coming to an end! *wibbles*
Marjorie M. Liu's Hunter Kiss. There's only one book so far (The Iron Hunt) but I can hardly wait for the next.
ReplyDeleteYasmine Galenorn's Otherworld series.
Catherine Asaro's Saga of the Skolian Empire.
Jim Butcher's Dresden Files.
Anything by Lilith Saintcrow. She's an automatic buy for me.
some of my favorite series are
ReplyDeletethe stardoc series
Shiloh Walker's Hunters
Jr Ward Brotherhood series
There are lots more but I can't think of them right now and these are some of my favorites.
I'm totally into your "Darkyn" series, the "Darkhunter" series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" series by J.R. Ward, the "Breed" series by Lara Adrian and the "Nightwalkers" series by Jacqueline Frank.
ReplyDeleteI'm into alot of other series but I think that is enough for now.
Thanks,
Terri W.
Ohh i have several favourites:
ReplyDeleteAnne Bishop - Dark Jewel Series
L E Modesitt Jr - Recluce Series
David Eddings - Belgariad and Mallorean Series
Orson Scott Card - Ender's shadow series
Christine Feehan - Carpathian series
Lynn Flewelling - Tamir Triad
Wen Spencer - Ukiah Oregon and anything by Lynn/ S L viehl of course
Yvonne
The Cast series by Michelle Sagara. The fourth book is out in October - I preordered it, can't WAIT!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is The Dark-Hunter series. I also enjoy Christine Feehan's Dark series and Colleen Gleason's Gardella Chronicles.
ReplyDeleteIt has totally changed over the years. In High School, it was the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey, along with all the different series by Terry Brooks, David Eddings, Brian Jacques, and so on.
ReplyDeleteThen, later, I discovered Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series (though my love affair fizzled after book three or four). And then it was Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness books that captured me (still do), as well as a short-lived two book series by Nina Kiriki Hoffman (starting with Past The Size of Dreaming), and Lisanne Norman's Sholan Alliance books.
And, of course, Stardoc and Darkyn. Jeez.
I've also become fixated on regular contemporary thrillers: Jack Reacher (Lee Child), Elvis Cole (Robert Crais), and others. I need to make more time to read.
Oh my gosh! An opportunity to win an early copy of Robin's story. Be still my heart. Anyway, I'm a huge series fan. Because the Darkyn are a favorite, I am truly going to miss it. My other faves are:
ReplyDeleteFeehan - Carpathians
Kenyon - Dark Hunter
Frank - Nightwalkers
Sands - Argeneau Vampires
etc, etc, etc.
Love the Stardoc books (just finished Omega Games and it was wonderful). Patricia Briggs's Mercedes Thompson Books. JD Robb's in Death books.
ReplyDeleteI currently divide my time between Stardoc and Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover.
ReplyDelete(Just ignore me if it's already past midnight. I've no idea what time it is now in the US. Here in Europe it's later anyway.)
I absolutely LOVE Christina Dodd's Darkness Chosen series and J D Robb's In Death series and Lora Leigh's Breeds series!
ReplyDeleteLOVE YOU too Lynn!
Cheers Meggs
I would have to say the "Darkhunter" series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, "The Black Dagger Brotherhood" series by J.R. Ward, the "Nightwalkers" series by Jacqueline Frank, the "Dragonfire" series by Deborah Cooke, and the "Hunters" series by Shiloh Walker. Lindsey
ReplyDeleteThere are so many series out there that I love, some of them are:
ReplyDelete- Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
- Morgainville Vampires by Rachel Caine
- Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward
- Mitford by Jan Karon
- Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
Ditto to the StarDoc and Night Huntress series. Both stellar.
ReplyDeleteChoose a favorite? I'll go old school and choose Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders.
ReplyDeleteTossing name in hat, love the cover ; )
ReplyDeleteThere are too many great series to name them all. Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld, Rachel Vincent's werecat series, Monica McCarty's Highlanders, Piers Anthony's Xanth... I know I'm forgetting several. And of course, your Darkyn series. I can't wait to read Robin's story.
ReplyDeleteOh my! So many good series mentioned here I've not read yet. I'm copying down suggestions. I'm still a Stardoc fan.
ReplyDeleteYes, please, toss my name in the hat if it'll fit. Wow. Great response.
Karen, the lurker
Kresley Coles Immortals After Dark Series
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of McCaffrey's Dragons of Pern series. CAN'T WAIT FOR STAY THE NIGHT!!
ReplyDeleteI read so many series that this is a somewhat impossible task. I guess I will go with Feehan's Dark series as that is the one that started me reading paranormal romance. In truth, I am a huge fan of most of the series mentioned in this list.
ReplyDeleteI have so many series that I love in romance and its subgenres that it would be unfair of me to pick one. Instead, I'll reach over to my mystery/detective shelves and pick the Spenser novels by Robert B. Parker. Hard to believe I've been reading that series for over 25 years.
ReplyDeleteMy absolute favourite series is the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Always funny, often insightful, and most of them books I can read again and again.
ReplyDeleteLenny
(long-time lurker who simply has to try for this one)
I really like Patty Briggs' Mercy Thompson series.
ReplyDeleteMeljean Brook's Guardian series.
ReplyDeleteMostly, I'm just here to sign up for the contest though.
I have more than one. Many more. Here are some of my faves.
ReplyDeleteSteven Erikson, Malazan Book of the Fallen
Bernard Cornwell, Warlord trilogy
GRR Martin, A Song of Ice and Fire
Dorothy Dunnet, Lymond Chronicles
David Gemmell, the Drenai books
Jacqueline Carey, the Kushiel books
Lois McMaster Bujold, Miles Vorkosigan
Lynn Viehl, Darkyn
Brian Ruckley, The Godless World trilogy (2 books out so far)
Scott Bakker, Prince of Nothing
And whatever I fancy reading at the time. :)
Let me see, BDB, Dark series, and Darkyn... I just love vamps, I guess... :)
ReplyDeleteAll of yours, Patricia Briggs, and Linnea Sinclair's. Mmmm, David Weber's Honor Harrington series, Anne McCaffery's Ship Who series, Stephen R. Lawhead's Silver Hand series, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear series, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series..oh, and George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. Not necessarily in that order.
ReplyDeleteMy Favorite series the is Suzanne Brockmanns TroubleShooters.
ReplyDeletesuelder wrote: And shouldn't that read NYT bestselling author? ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is the original cover art, which was put together before I hit the NYT top twenty. The editor tells me that the final edition has been corrected, although I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't show on the final edition. That's a pretty common snafu.
