Kyn Poll

It seems like I'm polling you poor people mercilessly this week, but Judiebabie and other Kyn readers are wanting some answers.

I am planning to write another free Darkyn e-book this year, probably a novella this time, to give away on Halloween (or, if for some reason I can't make that date, I'll publish it somewhere between the release of Twilight Fall in July and Stay the Night in January next year.)

Rather than introduce new characters this time, as I did with the Juliana trilogy, I'd like to work with an existing storyline. That's as much as I've decided about the project. So my poll for today is, which character(s) do you Kyn readers want to star in the 2008 e-book?

Before you answer, some things to consider:

Alex and Michael are the series protagonists, and their storyline is progressing in print, so they're really not candidates for anything more than maybe a brief cameo appearance in the new e-book. Same goes for Phillipe and John, as they both are closely involved in A&M's storyline.

Thierry and Jema, Lucan and Sam, Gabriel and Nick, and Jayr and Byrne are definite possibilities as protagonists for this story. Some secondary characters like Richard, Eliane, Jamys, Korvel, Cella, Beaumaris, etc. might work, too, if (for future print novel purposes) I can keep their storylines open to a certain degree, i.e. no killing them off, no placing them in permanent relationships and so forth.

Gets complicated, doesn't it? But this one isn't too bad. You don't even want to know how many storylines I'm juggling over in the StarDoc universe.

Think it over and, if you have a preference, let me know in comments which character(s) you'd like to see featured in the new e-book.

I'd like to see more Jamys. Korvel isn't bad. Cella is cool, so calm and composed, but just a little scary when she starts to lose it (okay, more like a LOT scary). Wouldn't mind some Theirry either...I like the Durrands. And Gabriel...oh, Gabriel.

How about all of them? Does all work for you?

Gee, I'd have never guessed. ;) Lucan is somewhere in the back of my mind and smirking now, I can feel it.

Oh, nobody schleps all their series characters into every story they write. Okay, except one author, and since she also shops for her characters, we kinda let it slide.

  4. I'd love to see more homosexual couples from you and my other favourite romance authors, but maybe that's just me. ^_~ So, in that vein, I really enjoyed Rainer as a character in Evermore. He was an entertaining and mysterious character to me and I'd like to know more about him and Farlae. On the other hand, no one ever seems to want to touch lesbian romance, so I think it would be interesting to see Marcella's character developed in that direction. ^_~

On the other hand: Byrne and Jayr, Byrne and Jayr, Byrne and Jayr, Byrne and Jayr, Byrne and Jayr. :D I think they're my favourite couple so far in the series (though I've loved all of them) and I really, really want to see the formal role reversal between master and seneschal. I want to see how the dynamics change between them personally and on a broader social level with Jayr as the first female suzeraine of a jardin.

I also found Korvel to be a fascinating mix of contradictions in that at times he seemed like such a cold, unfeeling bastard, but ultimately, he also came across as a man who adheres to a very high ethical code; a man of integrity and honour. Marcella is like Korvel in a lot of ways and I think it would be interesting to see how they would interact with each other. Especially since Korvel can usually compel any woman to desire him sexually and Marcella would probably fight tooth and nails before she let that happen.

And just for kicks, you could totally pair Jamys with an amazing human older woman (older woman, younger man isn't often done in romance).

So...I guess my is that I love this series and all of its characters to bits and whatever character you choose to write about and whatever kind of story you choose to write about them, I'll be sure to love. ;D The above descriptions were just something for you to think about when choosing which character to write about. :D

  5. I'll throw in for Lucan and Sam.

Barring that, Philippe -- providing I'm not suffering a massive brainfart (it IS 1:30 AM), he hasn't had a story of his own yet, has he?

And as soon as you can possibly make it happen. :)

This is tough. I'd like to see more Eliane or Cella. Or even Korvel, sure.

If I had to pick already-have-a-book people, I'd go with hm. Lucan and Sam, actually. (I liked Night Lost an eensy bit better than Dark Need, but for more story, I'd like Lucan and Sam better. Gabriel and Nick seem kinda more private. I want to give them their space. :D)

  9. I'd like to see more Richard and Elaine. But Lucan and Sam burned up the page so who can argue with that vote!

  10. Richard. Definitely Richard. And Byrne and Jayr. And Jamys.

    Lynn,
All of your characters are wonderful and whatever you pick will be fine with me.

Okay, I'll stop kissing up now! :D

Gabriel and Nick, of course! I want to find out where they are in the world, how they are doing together, maybe bring them back into the spotlight with the rest of the Kyn. I know Michael misses his friend!

  13. I've only read the first two Kyn books so far so I don't understanding the lucan and sam fascination yet (must go reserve book 3 from the library), but I would vote Jamys.

Really? I have a hard enough time buying clothes for real people.

It's an interesting anomaly that happens sometimes with series characters. Authors can never predict who will appeal most to readers (probably because we're too close to all of them.)

I try not to play favorites, but obviously Lucan and Sam are two characters I like to revisit. They're also so clearly defined in my mind that they pretty much write themselves; seems like I'm just there to take dictation.

Which old characters are going to make appearances in Twilight Fall?

Valentin, Alex, Michael, Phillipe and John are the primary returning Kyn characters. Jayr, Byrne, Rain, and Farlae also make cameos.

Lucan & Sam already have the first two e-books. How unfair would it be if they got the third e-book too? I love Lucan & Sam (used to be crazy about them), but I’m sated now.
I think Thierry, Gabriel, and Jamys are great characters. Their family also has a Marcel and Liliette, right? Did you ever say what Marcel’s talent is? And is Gabriel the only Seran left?
So, first choice is a story about one or more of the Durands. Second choice is a Korvel-centric story.
Oh. While I like Thierry and Gabriel, it doesn’t mean I like the dream-passages that tend to follow the guys. Their dreams are confusing.

Unlike most people here, Sam and Lucan are not my favorite couple. They are low on the list, actually. I like Jamys and Byrne best.

But I would really like to see Jamys or Cella get their own stories. I like the whole "trapped in a teenaged body and can't speak" thing, and Cella is just so mysterious...

    That's my 2 cents.

  21. I'm throwing in my vote for Lucan and Sam...I can never read too much about them! Although I wouldn't object to something about Richard...or Nottingham for that matter.

  22. Oh yikes, I totally messed up the grammar in my comment. It should read:

Let the boys have some fun.

    I haz English, srsly. :)

  23. I'd love an update on Richard to see how he is recovering and I'd love to know more about his relationship with Eliane. Maybe some tenderness from Richard for her would be especially nice.

But you can't go wrong with Lucan and Sam either. : )

Richard and Eliane!! How can the high lord not have his own story? Richard, please!!

  25. I'd just like to note that I didn't include Richard and Eliane in my request because in my own little delusional mind, it was a given that you're going to write a book about them. No pressure! Lol.

  26. Jayr and Byrne

I'd love to see how Jayr has changed and how her relationship with Byrne has grown.

  27. I don't think any of us are really thinking, "Stop her before she polls again," but I couldn't resist letting it roll off my fingers.

I have no strong preferences. I like them all.

  28. As much as I like Lucan and Sam, I agree with the other post about them having the first e-books. I also agree with lleeo about the Korvel and Cella pairing. I would love to see one about Jamys (or should I say the twenty year old version of myself would like it).
I also would like to hear from Gabriel and Nick. They have been gone long enough. You already have one about my absolute favorite. I totally love Val and I am jonesing for Twilight Fall.
Are any of the older characters going to make an appearence or cameo in the new e-book?

  29. Lucan and Sam or Byrne and Jayr, both couples have such an interesting dynamic going and I'd love to see how their relationships progress.

If either couple gets a into a new e-book, I will funky white girl dance. Honest.

Definitely Gabriel and Nick! I just love how they can't resist each other.

  31. melissa b. said it well: Jamys. I think he is a very sympathetic character and would love to read more of his life.

  32. I love Lucan and Sam, but they were in the other e-book you have, so I think someone else should get a chance to shine.

I say Gabriel and Nick, just because I have a Gabriel and Nick in my W-I-P, though they are brothers. (And I get a little laugh in my head all the time thinking of my Gabriel stumbling over your book about Gabriel and Nick, and smirking, "Look, it's about a Gabriel and Nick...oh wait. Nick's a chick in this. That just figures.")

(Now that I realize I've just publicly admitted that my characters have full dialogues in my head, I'm off to check myself into the nut house.)

(Did I even vote, or did I just digress? Oh yeah. Gabriel and Nicola.)

I would like to see how Jayr is handling her new status, Did she really switch "jobs" with Byrne? Can B handle it or did he do the typical male inept thing so Jayr would do it for him? After running the Realm for so long did Jayr have a hard time giving up control? Are the other bosses treating her with respect? Would also love to know how Gabriel and Nick are, what thier doing, where they're traveling to.

Richard or Jamys. I could also read... well, anyone else :) There's a reason I buy any Darkyn book as soon as it is available :)

  35. Since I just finished reading Evermore, I would like to see Robin show up in an e-book. I have a soft spot for broken hearted men, especially when they know they screwed up!
