Fantasy Group Blogs

While tracking down some links for a future post, I came across the new (or new to me, anyway) header over at The Lipstick Chronicles. Apparently the four authors blogging there are now six, but it was the header that riveted me for a time. With all due respect to efforts of the blog owners, that is a rather startling-looking row of heads (although it still doesn't top the photo once I saw on another group blog of an author whose head was flung back so far and at such an extreme angle that the neck looked fractured.)

Photoshopping your blog team is a cute/clever idea, especially if you can't get everyone together in person for an actual group shot. However, I'd try to make all the heads the same size, and refrain from using headshots with varying lighting to avoid that stalker-shrine-collage look.

I've been invited to join several group blogs since I started blogging. Aside from one secret junto and a few guest spots here and there, I never have. It's definitely me, not the groups. But there are writers out there who I'd like to see blog together. Here's one of my fantasy lists:

Patricia Briggs
John Dufresne
Bernita Harris
Linda Winstead Jones
L. (who must remain anonymous)
Bill Peschel
Kris Reisz

Now the why. All of these folks have very interesting minds and personalities, and while none of them are much alike, I think all of them would deal well with each other. I also have the feeling if they got together, they'd generate a lot of creativity and great discussions.

Who would write for your own fantasy group blog? Post your list in comments.

  1. Well, since I'm currently in an evil frame of mind, mine would be:

    Nora Roberts
    Janet Dailey
    Germaine Greer
    the late Norman Mailer.

It would start out like the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception and decline from there... Mwahahah!

  4. Thanks for the love.

I do occasionally post on the LiveJournal community Fangs, Fur, & Fey. While it’s probably less structured than a true group blog would be, there are some very bright minds over there, and the discussions I’ve gotten into and advice I’ve gotten from the other writers over there has been invaluable to me.

Or you, Holly and JA Konrath. (Yeah, I know that blog wouldn't make it past the first week.)

  8. LOL@ Darlene

Hmm. I love a ton of bloggers, but I don't know how well they'd blog together.

You, Holly, and Joely in one place would be a lot of fun. And Tammy could guest-blog when she feels like it. :)

Alternately, I wouldn't mind seeing Catie Murphy in a group blog. Any group blog, really, she's hysterical.

  10. A group fantasy blog?

    Let's see:
    Robin Hobb
    Steven Brust
Neil Gaiman (though his personal blog is great)
    Rachel Caine
    Garth Nix

    Ecclectic, I know.

  12. You, MJ Rose, JA Konrath, and Donald Maas.

If I wanted to be completely self-serving and think only of generating mass amounts of exposure for myself, I'd put myself on a fantasy blog with Nora Roberts. On second thought, my name would get out there, but nobody would give a damn what I said. *g*
