Happy Labor Day

No Monday 10 this week, folks. I'm going to spend Labor Day reorganizing part of my workspace by moving files, building wall shelves and rearranging some book cases (this is the PBW equivalent of bliss.)

If you're interested in doing something similar, Cottage Living has a nice piece on how editor Jessica Thuston made a few changes to brighten up her home office. For those of you who are looking for ideas on how to tidy up more efficiently, RealSimple.com has a great page here packed with everyday cleaning tips.

Have a great Labor Day.

Um...happy labour day I guess. Is that another American holiday? I'm afraid I don't know much about your holidays.

Hehe. I Thrive on my clutter. Neatness LOOKS very nice but in my opinion it makes a place feel...sterile. For me, only two things need be organised: the kitchen and the computer. There's nothing more irritating than not being able to find the file you want.

    Happy organising PBW!

  3. Happy Labor Day, PBW! We've been doing decluttering, organizing and cleaning all summer, and the results are well worth it.

  5. May I recommend a paper shredder for every office. It has definitely helped keep the paper clutter on my desk to a minimum.

    Thanks for the great links.

  6. Happy Labor Day...

I enjoy building bookshelves too. Though I haven't had the energy to do it for a few years... ;-)

Would like to see pictures though... on the blog of course.

  7. Yes, Keita. It's a holiday in the US (and Canada, I believe) honoring the sacrifices and efforts people and unions have made on behalf of the working class. As a result of their efforts, workplaces are safer, more workers earn a livable way, and children are no longer expected to work long hours in sweatshop conditions.

But, mostly, people use it to celebrate the end of summer, get together with family and friends, and have a party of some kind. Like Memorial Day at the end of May has become the traditional signal of the start of summer, Labor Day has become the traditional signal of the end of summer.

  8. Happy Labor Day, PBW (and everyone). I hope your bookcase building was successful (and fun- I like building things too). I also would be interested in seeing pictures of your project.
