Loss

It breaks my heart to write this, but we've lost one of our friends, F. O'Brien Andrew, who drowned with his wife Gretchen while out sailing. Holly Lisle announced it on her weblog here.

Frank was more than a blog pal to me. He was a friend. Over the last couple of months we've been corresponding privately about writing, life and the difficulties we've both faced. His letters were always a welcome sight in my post office box. I've been sitting here all morning re-reading his letters, which are full of reality and encouragement and hope.

I just can't believe he's gone.

I'm very sorry for your loss, but you darn near gave me a heart attack. My best friend and her husband, F. O'Brien...Murray are sailors, too. I saw the F. O'Briend and nearly fainted. See how I made that all about me?

I really am sorry to hear you've lost a friend.

  5. That's awful; two lives taken too soon... I hope that the families and all friends (including you) are doing alright. You'll all be in my thoughts and prayers. *hugs*

  6. I'm sorry, Sheila. These things come as such a shock.

One of our local docs drowned a few years back in a kayaking accident. He was a great guy -- literally hundreds of patients showed up for the memorial. It was a surprise then, and it's still hard to believe he's gone.

An interesting idea for a memorium: when one of our Writers BBS friends died unexpectedly a few years ago, her friends set up a chat room in her honor. It's going strong to this day.

  7. F. O'Brien posted several comments to my blog over a number of months, and was charming, polite and friendly every time. It's a shock to hear about his loss, and my thoughts are with his family and friends.

What a horrible thing, and always somehow worse at this time of year. Condolences to you and yours, and everyone whose life he touched.
