I am a Reader with a capital "R." If you scratch me, I bleed books. -- Loretta Benedetto Marvel, Mastering Illusion, CPS Sept/Oct '09
I snared this quote from Ms. Marvel's column in the latest issue of Cloth Paper Scissors, which every other month has me eyeing stuff in my junk drawer and wondering if I should open an online shop. If only there were a market for batteries of indeterminate power, orphaned pen caps and used wire ties, I'd be a millionaire in no time.
It also made me think: if you scratch me, what would I bleed? I want to say something cool like ink or plots or even worlds, but I suspect it would be story. Everything I do or love involves a story of some kind, whether it's mine or someone else's. Writing, reading, quilting, painting, blogging, cooking, caregiving, walking, talking, being. Most nights I can't even sleep without being sucked into the stories in my dreams (I'd really like to know why I keep having that one about walking through the aisles at the market though. I'm not even naked in that one.)
So your turn: if I scratch you, what would you bleed? Tell us in comments.

Kids/family/life. Story. Pictures. Martial arts. I think. Answer may change in the am.
ReplyDeleteI have a junk drawer like that. If you scratched me (my back please) I would have to say I would bleed books also. I have a TBR box that is overflowing. Since I have no creative abilities when it comes to writing, I do live vicariously through other's gifts.
ReplyDeleteMy husband would say books, but I'd have to say information. I know all kinds of useless data and assorted tidbits.
ReplyDeleteI think it'd be story for me, too. They're always in my head and yes, my dreams, too. Although I could live without the apocalyptic horror dreams thanksverymuch.
ReplyDeleteAntidepressants.
ReplyDeleteI read all the time, so I'm going with books too.
ReplyDeleteMusic, lyrics, words on paper, dreams, (maybe you should write that market one and it will go away) night terrors, hope, and all mixed in with it would be my family which is sometimes the cause of my bleeding! But hey, they're the only ones I've got. :P
ReplyDeleteAnd an aside to BuffySquirrel: probably me too. Maybe we could open a pharmacy. lol
Your answer is perfect, Lynn. I'd love to bleed stories, but I suspect if you scratched me, I'd bleed ice cream.
ReplyDelete:P There
ReplyDeletes just no telling. I'm into a lot of stuff, so whatever I bled would probably be whatever I was busy with at that time. If my fiancee had anything to say about it, I'd probably bleed white chocolate though. :P
Since I just did a two-day painting workshop I have to say right now I'd bleed acrylic paint.
ReplyDeleteI fear I'd bleed suckers. Lots and lots of multicolored, many-flavored suckers.
ReplyDeleteMy latest "project": trapping, spaying/neutering, and feeding the feral cats (current count--14) left behind by some irresponsible neighbors. (After taking in the 3 house cats they just left out in the forest.)
Suckers!
Ideas. Plans. To-do lists. School schedules. Mind maps. :D
ReplyDeleteLike you ... I would bleed stories.
ReplyDeleteAll stories intrigue me. The real, the fictional, the musical, the short, the long, beginnings, endings - even the lies.
To entrance me, all you need to do is tell me a story or listen well I tell you one.
Writing, reading, quilting, painting, blogging, cooking, caregiving, walking, talking, being.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't this mean you'll bleed '-ings' as well?
Sorry, editing at the moment, so I guess I'm bleeding grammar. Otherwise, it's mental storyboards.
Data.
ReplyDeleteI juggle data at my job and come home to read (which is more data...).
I then enjoy lots of detail oriented projects (knitting, stitching, etc) which is still bringing data (pattern, for example) to life! LOL
If you asked my daughter she would say history. Ask my dh and he'd say chocolate. I'd like to say words. :-)
ReplyDeleteHeart. I put my whole heart into everything I do and care about which is not always convenient or even wise. Even my friends often describe me as having a big heart - even though I'm usually the crankiest one in the group! : )
ReplyDeleteI would have to say books also. But chocolate probably isn't far behind! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI play three instruments, I sing, I love audio fiction and learn anything best by listening. I think I'd bleed sound, if you scratched me - music and spoken words and everything else.
