It's a huge process. She comes over once a week and we sew on her costume and will be working on my sons after hers are done. Watching her building and dying her Con wig is amazing. Did you know you can dye a wig green with sharpies? LOL
Helping make the costumes for the first Con has really made me free to create in other areas of my life and given me the title of "Best Mother in Law of the World"Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05272989569399942779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8343238.post-69018180560526743082011-04-01T15:38:17.949-04:002011-04-01T15:38:17.949-04:00Con goers, unlike the pack o' teens who left a...Con goers, unlike the pack o' teens who left a pile of groceries they weren't going to buy, are frequently more polite...particularly at the con.

Even though there are weapons carried, there are rules and things like "peace bondings" that keep them secure.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8343238.post-7223462152565748342011-03-31T18:34:42.127-04:002011-03-31T18:34:42.127-04:00I've been going to conventions since the '...I've been going to conventions since the '70s. They are ALL like this. People are there because of their common interests, so hey feel an affinity for one another that just isn't found in most conferences. Many feel isolated and singled out because they like "that weird stuff," and going to a convention is like going home, or going to that place "where everybody knows your name." I think I encountered a rude person maybe twice in all that time, in spite of overcrowded facilities and overheated people. The weapons you saw were almost certainly props. Real weapons are extremely heavy and not convenient to carry around the con all day. A word of advice: pack sandwiches! Convention center food is universally horrid, no matter where you go. I'm about to go to Wondercon tomorrow, and expecting to have a wonderful time, looking at the costumes, meeting with editors and artists, and tracking down old friends. You don't say how old you are, but I can tell you that I'm in my 50s and always feel tired at the end of the day, but satisfied and refreshed.Lois2037https://www.blogger.com/profile/04776736493772592187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8343238.post-19582119538206544152011-03-31T12:30:44.821-04:002011-03-31T12:30:44.821-04:00Worth all of the cost and even the bad food just t...Worth all of the cost and even the bad food just to get a sight of James Marsters, IMO! Sounds like it was a fun experience for you. And I'm sure your writer's mind has pulled all kinds of ideas out of the whole thing. Whenever I had to attend an event that might not be my first choice, I always go into it thinking that I'll play the social scientist and mentally catalog ideas for future stories. So there's a bonus for spending quality time with your kids besides simply enjoying their company.Lynn Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13444488890483608914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8343238.post-79889392854843159912011-03-31T12:08:54.582-04:002011-03-31T12:08:54.582-04:00I've passed turning into my mother and feel li...I've passed turning into my mother and feel like a granny when I look at these photos. My take on the 'young people are so rude these days' is that is BS, based on folks not willing to bridge the gap.Lisa Cohenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07530826748768737972noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8343238.post-53372343186759310592011-03-31T09:34:58.326-04:002011-03-31T09:34:58.326-04:00I love the generation gap thing -- I took my first...I love the generation gap thing -- I took my first step into the older generation way back when I scoffed at MySpace and told someone it would never catch on. Have to see what similar things happen in this area.

Y'know, since you brought up the topic of generation gaps, thought I'd mention something.

In that excerpt for Dark of Heart you posted a couple weeks ago, the mention of the nose piercing? That would have gotten eye rolls from the teens in my small rural town here in Oregon. Common. Belly button - almost as much. The kind of conversation you were describing would only happen in regard to piercing of regions farther south, male or female.Shawnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15511854435352811924noreply@blogger.com
