I think it's because she writes in the 3rd person DEEP POV and that makes the emotional, suspenseful component so much more dramatic and impactful than anything I've read before. Linda Howard draws a very close second. And, Louisa May Alcott and Pearl S. Buck tie for third. :)

[ooo! Its what keeps me coming back to Ellora's Cave.

Karin Slaughter for mystery. I like the fact that she writes the gory stories some authors can't. I can totally fall into her stories. My gods, that woman had a way with words! I was lucky enough to be able to collect everything she wrote as pretty much her entire collection is out of print. Unfortunately she died quite some time ago, cut down in her prime by brain cancer.

As for a living author: I did discover a new unique, talented author very recently (two weeks ago, as a matter of fact): Vicki Pettersson. She writes what I would classify as science fiction/fantasy but can be found in the horror section in Real World bookstores. Her heroine is lovely and quite flawed, her writing is fantastic.Reikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00708778884940369210noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8343238.post-25102176946201774182007-04-26T16:41:00.000-04:002007-04-26T16:41:00.000-04:00"When you discover a talented, unique author, they..."When you discover a talented, unique author, they always grab your imagination from page one, and you just can't get enough of their work."

You described my experience this month when I picked up "Crossing the Line" by Karen Traviss.
